First off, Justin and I really enjoyed ourselves this weekend. He said everyone was cool and all nice people. And thanks to everyone that made the fish fry a success on friday night. The weather was cold, wet, and windy, but the food was excellent. And Thanks to Mrs. Anna for cooking us all some of the best gumbo I have eaten, saturday night.
For those that couldn't make it, over the weekend we had fried fish, potatoe salad, hushpuppies, regular fries, sweet potatoe fries, cole slaw, Gumbo, more potatoe salad, smoked duck, boudin, and Mrs. Kathy's banana pudding. So if anyone went hungry it was their own fault...lol....
As for the fishing, the lake is the dead sea at the moment. Very few fish caught by those who braved it. The majority of the fish came from the bayou's.
We caught 32 that made it in the box on saturday, and 29 on sunday. Steve and Randy gave us a few they caught to take home and our total count for the weekend was 84. I caught the majority of my fish on black/chartruese on a 1/4 oz chartruese head, and red/chartruese on a 1/8oz red or pink head. The most of the bigger fish came on the 1/4oz jig, I guess they wanted the bigger bait. Water temp was right at 45 degrees and the fish were caught in 16-20fow fishing 15-16ft deep. I didn't take very many pics, but here are few.
Markam had his purdy new boat there and he was entertaining to watch running back and forth by himself on that big boat with all them rods.
Here is a shot of the congestion on the bayou. And this was before it got too crowded.
Just before dark on sunday, I caught a 7 inch crappie that I don't get to see very often. We always called them racing crappie. He was released back to get bigger.
And here is the fish we came home with. It doesn't look like 84 fish, but they are in a 96qt icechest. I didn't put a can or anything in there for comparison, but you can kinda judge them against a bag of ice.
Thanks again to everyone for making this gathering happen. We will be looking forward to the next one.
You can't fish with a hung line!
Thanks for the post! I was checking all day yesterday for someone to drop some info on how it went. I wish I could have made the trip, but I HAVE to fess up that I didn't miss sleeping in a tent on those cold nights! :D
Glad to hear you had a good time!

Garrett said it was worth the trip even though the fishing was tough. He said the food makes it worth while and he will do it again. Glad to see everyone and I'm looking forward to the next one.

There are two things to aim for in life: First, to get what you want; and after that, to enjoy it. Only the wisest of mankind achieves the second. Author unknown, but I like it!
The good folks at the Larto get together. Kathy and I had a really great time.
The fish fry Friday night was excellent, thanks Percher, Oneon, and Bamafan for doing the cooking. The wind was terribly cold but the good food and fellowship was worth it. And Saturday nights food was awesome with Mrs Slabhunters world class Gumbo, it was great. Thanks to all that contributed to the meals. Enjoyed visiting around the campfire after the meal Sat night, thanks Bamafan for bringing the firewood. We caught lots of fish with most being caught in the bayous. Sat. afternoon and Sun. morning I caught some good fish in the lake, but it was slow. Looking forward to the next gathering.
I didn't get many pictures but here is a few.

Man I already was having a tough time not being able to join you folks, but this morning when I looked at the pictures I felt myself get sick. All this work is killing me. It looks cold but whereelse would you rather be? Good friends, good fishing, and GOOD FOOD! I got to get this boat ready so I can get back in the game. I assure you that for those of us that could not make it the pictures and stories help ease the pain. By the way: Did FM allow anyone in his new boat? He looked lonely.
