My friend Thien and I headed back to Mooringsport Sunday morning hoping the rain and temp drop had not shut down the bite out there.
When we went to launch the boat I noticed the water was the color of chocolate milk. I should have never put the boat in… Last year this same thing happened out there and I showed up after the rain and the bite had gone from hero to zero. Sure enough it was a repeat of this very thing.
An hour and a half later we were hooking the boat up with only one yellow bass to show for our trouble. Water was so stained you could not even see the bottom of the livewell or the little yeller bass that yes I kept, what of it! lol :D
So I told my buddy Thien we got to make a change or go fishless. So we hooked up and headed to Uncertain. With our minds very much in that state as to what we might find.
Put the boat in and the water was very clear. Bite was on and we started putting fish in the boat at the first stop. Nice black crappie with some 12-13 inch whites aswell. Fishing near the bank line in 10-13 foot of water. Both tight line and cork fishing bout 8ft deep.
First fish was a funny story. A nice 14 inch black crappie that I went to swing in the boat with my 12’ rod which promptly broke. Dang line broke too and piled up on the surface. I scrambled down there and grabbed it. Pulled that joker in by hand. :D
Another highlight was a double with a 3lb+ ba$$ and a good chunk black crappie.
Bunch of LUNKER 10’+ yellow bass here too. Dang things we a nuisance after a while on live bait. Of course I kept a sink full.
Ended up catching 3 bass total, all of which were over 3lbs one going 3.7lbs. They were fun on 4-6lb line and 12 ft poles. Last one I caught on my little 5ft jig flipping rig.
Eric can be my witness. He was out there with a friend pulling up fish with us.
Thien took 10 of our 27 slabs home with him so I ended up with this haul to clean…
Made for a nice end to a weekend of Caddo lunkers. Here is a shot of the better fish. 3 crappie over 2lbs and 3 bass over 3lbs.

Looks like a nice haul! I bet that double with the bass & crappie was a WILD fight on a crappie pole!
Yeah it was chaos. Actually the crappie was on a seperate pole. It was just a double in that they both hit at the same time. I had to call for backup and hand one rod to Thien.Originally Posted by BassAddict69

:D Fishing is fun; Catching is better
good catch!
Don't know much about Mooringsport. Lake or river?
There's a river here in Louisiana that will get like chocolate milk after heavy rain, but I find that back in the slews the water clarity is clear. I always tear them up when the main river gets muddy. I don't know if they run down river into these slews or what? After 3 days or so the slews will begin to muddy up, then I head upriver a good 10 miles or so and the clarity is slightly stained and they start to bite again.
Your not fishing, unless your crappie fishing!
Nice catch Markham but how big is that sink if the yellow bass were 10 feet + ?!:D lol

Way to salvage the day FM, them yeller's are some nice ones, well actually I didn't see anything wrong with any of them. Congrats on the catch and thanks for the pics.
You can't fish with a hung line!
I like the way you never come home empty handed! Looks like some good eating and fun fighting!
