pretty neat, have heard and read about the ole spark plug "knocker", but never seen one.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

Pretty simple device. I work around some big engines so I have some bigger than normal spark plugs.

Hey, I thought I had a patent on those already, hee hee. Been using them for a long time. My Grandfather used them about 60 years ago that I can remember. Cheap and they work

    Will a Autolite plug work?

That is the one brand that won't. game wardens frown upon using it while connected to an engine coil. : )

I just recently came across the trick and figured i would share it since i don't provide much useful information yet. Honestly any weight tied to a swivel would work.

I have done that before, only I used a 2oz bell sinker with a swivel tied to it, but if you tie it on another rod and then clip it on the string of the hung jig, and let it slide down, you can retrieve the sinker in case the jig doesn't come loose and the line breaks off.
You can't fish with a hung line!

U can fancy it up a bit by putting a washer under the connector end and drilling small holes in it and attaching small pieces of really light chain.. I use a large swivel and attach it under the point gap leaving the snap part of the swivel to attach to the line. Tie a small piece of catfish staging line on it about 30' or so long and let it down the line and jig it up and down a few times. Works very well for me. If U got a bunch of em just use nothing but the plug.
