Larto March 19,20
Well we had a gathering this weekend, and it may sound bold, but to me, it was probably the least organized one so far. willk, it was nice to meet you, and Pastor, it was nice to meet you also. The gumbo was great by the way, Thanks. It was good to see some familiar faces from past gatherings, Gatortrax, Shadow, Sporty, Gasdad, Saline Lake Jigs and I appologize if i left anyone out. Brendon, thanks to you and your friend for cooking the fish saturday night and Dwyane for helping them. The deserts were great also. Fishing was SLOW, we got there later friday than we wanted, but got to fish for a few hours without much success. I think I kept 3 friday evening and saturday, I kept around 20 and my son Chris added 5 or 6 to the box. I had 1 that weighed 1.15 after about 7 hours in the box, one that went a little over a pound and three quarters and a few around a pound and a half. Best color for us was orange head/red/chartruese, and chartruese head/black/chartruese. Didn't catch a single fish in shallow water although we did see a few caught shallow. All of our fish came in 10-17fow fishing 13-16feet of line out slow trolling. Today we didn't even try it, weather kicked up last night and it turned off COLD so we ate breakfast and packed everything up and headed home. After talking to a few members, I think we should move this gathering back into the winter months, it seems like we have alot better turn out and the fishing is usually better. I only have a few pics of the fish and will post them later.

Johnny sorry to hear you guys and gals didn't catch more fish, but then again you didn't go home empty handed either. Was the water still muddy or off color? That weather started kicking up out here last night we have 10 to 12 footers out there right now and 20 - 30 knot winds too.
I knew one thing for sure that you all would eat good and had some good company to eat with.

I don't really know how to anwer the muddy water part, I haven't been there enough to really know what it is normally, I know near the bank, the first 5 ft or so off the bank was pretty muddy from the boat traffic, but the rest didn't look bad to me. We caught most of our fish, let me see how to explain this, if you leave youngblood's and go down the man made cut til you get to the end, turn right and go to where the bamboo are sticking out the water, we fished the middle from there towards Shad lake and caught a few from Shad lake heading back down the buzzard roost bayou.

LOL I don't know what they call that area either, but I know where it is and I guess that is what counts. Thanks a bunch.
Last time we were there is was like chocolate milk.

It was great to meet you too Johnny. And all the rest that showed up. When I was cleaning fish I saw a group that had been yoyoing, and they had over 50 crappie, some over 2lbs. And a 48qt ice chest of catfish. On the other hand, I caught about 25 crappie slow trolling in 20' of water about 14' deep. It was real slow.

Im with you Johnny it was was good to see those who where there, but we had had several I didnt even get to talk to because noone came oveR to fish fry Sat night, ME , BulletBob, Dewayne,Johnny and Saline Lake jigs????? I know Pastor had to get back for Sunday Church, who else was there??,,, we had 16 votes for this date and where was everyone???? Fishing was ILL BE FRANK, HORRIBLE. What in the world was with the fish, even Billy who guides only had 5 fish Saturday morning with his group he guided. I think this HARD winter we have made it hard fishing. Thank you Al Gore!! It may have pushed everything back (spawn) into Apirl.look at the warm temps coming next week,,one day its showing 79,,wow. I catch ALOT more fish during Spawn than any other time of the yr.
Im like you Johnny ,it was very disorganized,,and maybe someone needs to jump in and take control and volunteer to organize it. We needed someone to say meet this time (7pm) friday evening,,you bring this and that,,,saturday this time 7pm ,,this, that and bring this,,we have this. I think it would help next time.We still had alot of fish to clean and cook,,I cleaned about 20 or so. Billy had 33 friday, and we had 11 saturday. With those and some Johnny had, we had enough to fry,and then some. I didnt bring any home all went into pot, ill fry fish maybe 2 times a yr in my house. Good ol cajun catfish house!!Now specks and redfish, now that another story, ill fish all day for those and night, never want to stop!! I have to disagree with you and dewayne on one thing,,I HATE fishing in Jan.LOL.I dont fish in cold freezing weather,im not a diehard like you guys,im not mad at them enough,LOL.I have cajun catfish house down the road if I want fried fish,,LOLand they serve me good ice tea! I thought we did this date for the KIDS and WIVES to enjoy themselves also. I know mine and Bulletbobs's wife loved the weather fri and sat. She is talking about the tan they got! They where able to get out of the cabin find a chair outside and read, walk , go sit down by the lake and watch the boats.Kids where able to play baseball, football, and noone was or stuck in the RV/cabin. Couple years ago in Jan,when it was cold and rainy, my wife did not ever want to come back,3 kids stuck in a camper drove her and me crazy. Not fun. Sunday crazy weather cold front,it happpens.when that hit saturday night late around midnight,,we said heck no,,we only live down the road so we went home.yes it was cool on some nights but nothing like jan. weather. It felt good,,warm days cool night no bugs!!Sorry we didnt say our goodbye's but I was in alot pain. my neck was killing me,I could not get comfortable in the bed. I have 6 pillows on my superking at home,,and one pillow on that little bed,in pain,I wanted pain meds, and my bed, cant wait to get it cut on and out of me. ILL take 2 warm beautiful days over 3 freezing rainy days anytime. I enjoy the spring time ALOT better!!!! We had 16 votes for this date,,and shadow didnt even vote,(but he came up),so subtract 4 of us,,that 12 people something or somehow could not make it.I understand life happpens and this is for fun, so im not mad at anyone, but this could have happened with any date. not just because it was a spring date. Maybe next yr since Slab HUnter is at D'Arbonne and didnt come to the gathering we should follow him. LOL he knows something we dont,,I was wondering why he did tell anyone where he was going on the boards. Wish he would have said,he better fishing at DArbonne!Follow me!!.Now we all know mid march,,,head to D'Arbonne,,Jan-Larto, August we did good(group had 125 or so fish)Larto, Fall-D'ArBoone.
All in all ,like I said before, I enjoy seeing everyone and visiting ,more than fishing.I spend more time at unclebuds talking than fishing!!!I just love to saltwater fish!! It was good to see you guys again.Seems like seeing ol friends again! Pastor thanks for the gumbo!
Until next time!!

thats behind dry larto island , goes to devils point. Dont mistake this for being island in larto lake ,not the same. youngbloods go threw man made cut, like heading toward cross bayou landing/camps.That the way to go to Saline Bayou back to shad(take right)not way to buzzards roast, also saline bayou to shad lake) but if you go threw man made cut take left(not right) goes to cross bayou, left goes to ski point landing, duck bayou and goes to Saline lake,go across saline lake, take right goes into lil saline bayou(where slabhunter did his tv show in late jan.several yrs ago) or go left goes to big creek back to woodson bayou!!!yall confussed yet! I know them all because i run them in the dark with spot light goin duckhunting,,took me, o about 10 years!

Oh and on your other post, for the women and kids, of the 6-8 women that mentioned the spring gathering, only 2 of them were able to make it.
and as for Randy,

As soon as the date was set, he said that he wouldn't be able to make it because they already had rez at Darbonne for that weekend. But I talked to him earlier tonight and the wind put a whoopin on them too and the fishing isn't all that.
