Jim I didn't go yesterday, wind was up by the time I got free so I cleaned out my boat and tied jigs for a couple hours. Crazy weather today. Should be nice by Wednesday, high 75.
Thanks for the input guys. I've tried basically all of these and there's not been a permanent fix. I mostly use a roadrunner on my ultralite, and from time to time we don't realize it but the bait will spin just every now and again, as well as when we catch a crappie, they tend to almost tumble on the way up, more so than swim, making the line twist. I think the only for sure fix is a reel that keeps your line spooling the same way all the time. I stopped in a store this past week and they haven't heard of this before.

Probably the biggest cause of line twist on a bail-type spinning reel is tripping the bail with your handle. ALWAYS close the bail WITH YOUR HAND before beginning your retrieve. Also, if you try to land a fish and your drag is set too loose and you hear the click of the drag slipping....every time you turn the handle you are putting twist on the spool.

CJ,
I'm going to have to get one. Did you have to order yours or did you buy it here in town?

I bought a "Line Spool Box" made by Plano.Think I got it at Wal-Mart,it holds 6-8 spools, and keeps them upright like the diagram shows. It has a little hole to feed line through for each spool.Perfect for respooling by yourself.

good line and good reels will both minimize twist. Try lines that have the least memory. Spooling correctly also helps.

Not sure if it's the same, but I use something called "Reel Magic" and it works pretty good. I spray my line before I go fishing (everything out of the reel and the spool on the reel). After about 10 minutes of fishing, all the twist are gone. Have to re-spray about every 3rd trip, unless you break off alot and then you might have to do it every trip, one time. It's pretty good stuff.
