Default LARTO REPORT 3-12 thru 3-14

I went to Larto Fri morning arriving at daylight. I must mention I went with 3 Crappie-Getters. I mean 3 guys who can flat fish....Staying at Bud's, we grinded it out all 3 days in the N/W wind at 12-18 mph with higher gusts. We talked to a few people who did very well on Thurs 3-11. A lady who caught 49 with jig pole lines that resembled a clothes lines.....A couple who caught 83.....reports like that. But the front had come thru and between the wind, high pressure, and much cooler temps, the WP won the war this past w/e. We managed to catch 15 or so keepers Fri.....45 or so Sat.....and 10 keepers Sun till 1PM. The vast majority of the fish are still in the channels at 9-12 ft. A few are close to the brush, a few are at 6-8 ft. We had our best results fishing with 12 ft. of line out with the jig probably running at about 10 ft deep. We fished the bayou (I think its Saline Bayou) from the entrance to Shad Lake back or South 300-400 yds to the split. This bayou paralells the Buzzard Roost bayou that runs to S/L. The fish are there. We just couldn't get them to bite. I did catch a very nice one in the lake in 10 feet of water. Jig color is a matter of preference and shiners didn't make much of any difference. I caught most of the few that I caught on Pink and Black. Just use what you like to use at Larto. We caught as much or probably more than anyone at Buds. I will say that it's a ticking timebomb that's ready to go off. The ignition will be in the form of warmer temps and lower pressure. Those fish are there. I watched them the whole w/e. I will mention that we caught at least a hundred W/P 3-5" long. I asked the smallest one that I caught "hey when were you born, I thought the spawn hadn't happened yet!!!" I mean these W/P were tiny. For those going to the gathering, this is whats going on now....I also know how fast it can change. I saw it first hand. I think that any change at this point will be for the better. Have a great time this coming w/e at Buds. I have a feeling that the fishing will be quite a bit better. JN

We also fished this weekend....didnt do crap . We fished friday and sunday. Friday we caught some bass couple cats. Gave them away to a older couple fishing the bank at Taylor's bayou. Sunday my father in law got there at sunrise, and I arrived around 10am with my 2 boys, Hunter and Gage. We fished around devils point back toward shad lake. Nothing,,,went to buzzards roast, Hunter caught a really nice crappie, shinner under a cork up against the bushes. We saw fish all over the fish finder,,they where just locked jawed. We went out to youngbloods,,alot of trucks at youngbloods. Went out to larto and rode to uncle buds to see how they are doing. Ran into Billy at uncle buds and we talked,,He said man it was hard fishing,,fish just locked up not wanting to bite. Well, he had some fish so he gave me his and Red ,back at Phils Landing(cross bayou landing) gave me some he had. My father in law gave us what he had,,so we took home about 30 or so crappie. Me and Hunter cleaned them and we had a fish fry tonight! That was the best thing,,eatin!! Water is real muddy...really muddy. We need a week of warm weather and some calmer winds. The females look like they are going to bust,,the eggs had red veins in them ,some where looking good. Not long now. I think if we get some warm weather this week, this coming up gathering should be alot of FUN!!

I also went today from 10am-3:30pm=zero! I fished Youngblood landing and Buzzards roos, using shiners at various depths, it was very fraustrating trying to keep a pontoon boat still in that wind! I agree with Slip Cork the fish are there, my fish fishfinder looked like a dot to dot puzzle, everytime we got in deep channel. I'll setting up Thursday at U. B. Hope it's better next weekend.

I'm up here in shreveport and i cant buy a bite. Ive gone out the last week or so with shiners and haven't gotten a single nibble and jigs and tubes havent produced either. Some guy the other day said his fishfinder showed it was 65 degrees, but I think its wrong. If we dont have any rain, the weathwer shows it may be a warm up we need.

Thanks for the reports guys. I have never seen Larto, don't even know if I can find it yet, but yall have me looking forward to getting there Thursday. If I can find Uncle Bud's maybe he can point me and John to the launch and the lake. LOL.

Is the bean field road passing through Vic still flooded? I hoping to go camping a few nights at youngblood at the end of the month.
