Just thought I would update with some info I got today about here on Toledo Bend and I know some of you guys fish here.
My Neighbor fished yesterday afternoon, mostly for bass but even got one big crappie on a wacky work in about 4' of water.
Anyway the best part is that the surface temp yesterday was between 63 and 65 so it's starting I would think. I would have gone today, but it got cool and that front came through last night. Mainly the wind is blowing from the North where I wanted to fish so will wait until maybe tomorrow.

news Skip, however it is about 3-weeks too early for me.
Do the crappie hang around in the shallows for a time after the spawn? Or do they high-tail it out of town.
I can't leave now; They fixen to turn on.
Skip the wind is going to be bad tomorrow also, try to find a place out the wind I know there are plenty on Toledo bend. Good Luck

Skip, thanks for the info. Let us know how you do if you make a trip.
Deacon, I don't know how far north or south you are gonna be, but in about 3-4 weeks, they should be in about 12-15fow and you should be able to catch them long line trolling down towards the south end of the lake.
You can't fish with a hung line!
Decon, they will be shallow for a couple of months usually as they don't all lay eggs at the same time and even the same fish will not lay them all at one time. They will use more than one nest just in case. I usually don't find the big nest in that 1'-3' except for a kind of short time, but I usually can catch them in and around hydrilla until at least May in 6'-7' of water. May go out to 10' or 11' a little too.
crappiecatcher06, I kind of have it so can get out most any time, but prefer it's not from the North and anything else is just fine. Don't know if you have ever been around the 6 Mile area, but I live on 6 Mile so not far to go. Just do to the dock, lower the boat and get it and go. Love it here.
Oh and heard about some caught wading, but don't know if that was Rayburn or here, but think Rayburn in 3' of water.

I fished in Toledo many years ago for bass, but I kept hearing stories of the crappie that you can catch down there, (I live in Kansas) what is the best time to go? And is it too late right now...?
Right now is just getting started this year for the spawn. It's too late for the chicken coop which is famous for winter fishing. I would say most any time in the next month or month and a half at least is great fishing.
Once Summer set in it is much harder to catch fish without a lot of work with brush piles and such.
Right now until maybe 6 more weeks you can fish the hydrilla in 6'-10' now to say 12'-14' a little later (late April and maybe even some in May) and do well until them move deeper.
Thanks for being our Toledo Bend connection Skip, I really do appreciate your information. Keep it coming!
