Thread: Poll Steering Method of Choice?

As some of you know, I am highly interested in beginning to fish and have been asking a lot of questions. What type of steering method do you prefer?

I like many others,have owned or used all 3 for crappie or bream I like a stick annd use one now, but wwhen bass fishing I need an elevated front deck to be able to stand and flip or "pitch" a jig,worm or spinnerbait. I would advise you to look at as many boats as possible to check out the layout , you always need more room than you think! Good luck and great fishing!

I've voted already (Console), but I must make an observation about stick-steering boats, of which I have had two.
Stick steering does allow you to see what you are about to hit better than console steering!
And that ain't meant to be funny!

I have never owned a boat with a console. I have used both tiller and stick steering boats though. The boat I have now is a stick steering model, a Tracker, and I love the conveince of not having to move after I shut down the big motor before I can start to fish. But if your need is speed, most stick steering boats don't support much more than a 50 HP. Mine has a 40 HP and will run about 25 mph wide open. Plus, most stick steering boats don't offer as much room as a console boat. Being 52 years old, my need for speed has long been gone and simce I don't catch very many fish I usually don't need a lot of room. It's all a matter of personal preference. Yo might want to fish with a couple of guys, each with a different model, and see which one you might like the most. A boat, whether new or used, is an expensive investment and you don't want to buy something that you might be unhappy in for a long time.

one day I was fishing red river , i saw a man in a bass boat about 18 ft with stick steering.
this guy had best of both worlds, room and conveniece.

Definitely go for more room, whatever your choice. There's never enough room in the boat once you start adding gear. Good luck with your choice of steering.

I Had A Kingfisher Boat Hence My Id"kingfisher" Which Was A Stick With A 40 Hp. I Now Have A Bass Tracker With A 60 Hp. Al Though The Stick Was Handy To Fish From Since You Did Not Have To Move As Pastor Says. When You Are Running Down The Lake You Get All The Wind And Sometimes The Water From Hitting Waves. The Main Reason That I Changed Was My Favorite Way To Fish Is Holding Two Rods And Tite Linning. I Like That "thump". With The Stick The Sides Were So High That I Could Not Hold The Rods At Arms Length. Which I Do All Day Somtimes. But These Are Small Things And You Need To Decide What You Like. Later!

Got a Bass Tracker Pro Team 17.5 w/ 75 on it and use it mainly for trollin oand pullin cranks. The console doesnt get in the way either way I fish and does provide some wind and water protection.
