    Smile Depth Finder Question

Once again I am turning to yall to help me out. I am still in the learning process. When I bought my boat last year my transducer for my fish finder came mounted to my trolling motor head. I am trying to come up with a way to know my depth while I am running down the lake. The bracket that came with it is curved so that it will fit against the head of the trolling motor. It is a cheap little Eagle brand and I am wanting to buy a good humminbird maybe. So I guess my question is how can I see my depth in the back of my boat while running down the lake but still be able to have a fish finder in the front while fishing. I have a 17 foot war eagle with tiller steering so I don't have a console. Thanks for the help. :D

A separate transducer mounted on the transom will give you the ability. It will require a switch set-up for selection of transducer. Hummingbird and others have exactly what you need, but I an not sure if it is available for the unit you currently have. I have this switch and it works well.

Would be an excellent excuse to upgrade.

I run two different depthfinders with two separate transducers. One at the back of the boat and one on the trolling motor. This works great for me. Where it really helps is when you are trying to stay on a breakline or a dropoff. You can see the depth of the water at the front and back of the boat at the same time. I have my displays mounted side by side. Hope this helps. Since you already have one on your trolling motor, just buy you a unit to mount rearward.

ok, here is my oppinion... Being you have tiller steering on the boat, you will need a unit in the front and one in the back. If I am not mistaken, most fish finders come standard with a transom mount, which is what you will need in the back of the boat, with the unit mounted near the seat where you will be sitting to run the outboard.. Then you will need a unit up front where you will be sitting to fish.. If you are gonna buy a Humminbird, I would put it in the front because it would be the better unit. It should come with a transom mount. If you DO NOT hook it up, you can ship the transom mount back to humminbird and request the trolling motor mount. They should exchange them FREE of charge.(I've done it before) Here's the catch... you will need to change the transducer on the Eagle to a transom mount in order to mount it in the back. I have a cheap Eagle Cuda 168 that I use on my little 10ft boat. I had to rig it up to get the transom mount to mount to the trolling motor... If that is the same Eagle that you have, I would be willing to swap my transom mount with you for your trolling motor mount.

The one that I have is the 525 and it came with the transom mount, but it's been a couple years, they may have started doing them universal now, but then again, you probably have a more expensive model than the one I have. I just need something to show me what depth they are staged at.

I have a Eagle 320 and I learned how to operate mine on a web site that Eagle has. I don't remember the address, you might google it. They have simulators for different ones and you can play around with it. The most I ever fool with is sensitivity and gray scale. With the sensitivity up if you are reading the bottom and a group of fish come across it will jump to the depth they are at. Sometimes I know I am in 30 ft of water and mine may be reading for ex. 12ft.
