OT-Squirrels
Just wondering if anyone has heard of squirrels feeding at night during a full moon. Back when I was a kid I heard the old timers say they did but I never believed it. Well, yesterday morning I was set up for some duck hunting in the flooded timber at 6:20 a.m., about 50 minutes before sunrise. It was pitch dark but I kept hearing acorns dropping in the water, sounding just like squirrels feeding. After daylight I eased to the spot and found 7 squirrels feeding in one tree and killed 4. It was a full moon, although overcast. Anyone have a similar experience?

I have had the same exact exerience while duck hunting. Once you get set up and get still you can hear an acorn hit the water from a long way on a still morning. I also have a pet squirrel and there are nights you can hear him making all kinds of noise in his lil 10x10 room. Turn the light on and he will have a pecan in his mouth trying to find some place to hide it. I know he isnt a wild one but his instincts are the same.

I have no doubt the squirrels dont sleep until daylight, I just think for their safety they dont hit the ground until it's light enough for them to see the predators that could get 'em. The smart ones aint out on the limbs too early either if they value their hides from the owls. Eatin' in their nests and pushing the hulls out....I'd think definitely!
