Default Red River 8/24, bad day need new lower unit :(

Bass fished most of the morning and only caught two, while my friend kevin was crappie fishin', he caught one nice one and that was it. We fished White house area. I took him back at 1030 headed back for some more action and on the way back i found a rock jettie in a bad kinda way!! it was the one south of Port Lake below that big rock pile, if you all don't know the rock wall extends south about 300 yds from the actuall pile, dangit, so to make a long story short, does anyone know how much a new lower unit costs? have any of you all ever tried to replace one, is it a big job? Or is it a take to the mechanic must do job? Thanks for the help, it is a 90hp opti-max. It wa

It was a beautifull morning, nice and cool, gators out everywhere even out in the middle of the river this morning never seen them out there like that before....

Have you got insurance? I hear they are pretty expensive but don't know how much. Some one on the mechanics corner under the main crappie forum could probably tell you. Bet your sick, sorry.

i do have insurance, but i am not sure if it covers utohs like that, i read the literature a hundred times when i got home but you know how that stuff is, don't make any sense, it said repairs not covered, but if i ran my tuck into a rock pile even though it was my dumb mistake, auto insurance would cover that, im praying that it will be covered and yes i am sick, i don't know if i can wait until monday to call allstate...

putting a new lower unit on aint hard at all, the problem would be how bad the damage was to the MID section..like bent bolts, wobbled out holes etc...can you send a picture of the damage?

Most insurance will cover the lower unit. Same as if you were to run up on a stump and poke a hole in the boat. I have had friends that have had the lower unit replace after running into a stump and the insurance covered it. Bet yours will too.

Hope everything works out alright for ya. It's gotta hurt knowing your boat is busted when youre wanting to fish. Been there...done that already.

great info guys thanks, sure is encouraging to hear that its not hard to replace ill try and get a pic posted this afternoon. I seen it is only 4 bolts holding it up there so surely it ain't that hard unbless there are some special tools required inside. thanks again.

Nathan what ever you do make sure to get a mag partical inspection on the housing, it will find micro fine cracks that would let water into the lower unit. It doesn't cause that much. I hit the concret base on I-10 in Henderson on time didn't have that done long story short it was back in the shop having the whole lower replaced again because they didn't check for cracks in the housing.

I hated to read about you bad luck. I hope you get the boat fixed real soon. Maybe I'll see you on Cypress Lake someday. I usually launch at the dam. I drive a white F-150 and fish from a Bass Tracker Pan Fish 16. God bless.
