We were at Old River last week and saw a boat that was a spider rig and trolling, as it turned out he was the only one that caught sacalait that day!!
Any tips on setting your boat up, type of poles, depth and any other useful information would be appreciated!
Was hoping to fish this past week, but that didn't pan out!

It depends alot on the boat that you have, if you want to run single/double people up front. A single 4 pole holder can get you started. You want to use at least a 10 ft pole to keep the line out of the trolling motor with some guys using 16ft or longer models. Be prepared to feel like a 1 legged man in a butt kicking contest at first because it can be overwhelming tending 4 poles at once.

Rosie, if you have already figured out how to upload them to photobucket you've got the hard part done. The rest is just hover over picture, click on IMG that pops up under the picture when you hover over it, copy the link in the box to the right of IMG, and paste it in your post on CDC. Any problems drop me a line.

I made my rod holders out of 3/4 alum. and pvc but you can buy them at many places. I use rods that vary from 12-15ft long and fish 6 rods. I also use a 1/2oz piece of lead and that tends to keep it pretty verical with not to much weight. I troll very slow and i do my best in the winter. There are alot less skiers. The depth will vary so put your rods at different depths until you figure out where they are and adjust the others to that depth. I measure from the tip of my rod to the shaft and put tape around it and write the length on the tape so you can get very accurate with the depth. I rig half my rods with shiners and the others with shiners to see what they want but most of the time it is hard to beat the real thing shiner. Hope this helps and it is fun when you get 2 or 3 on at one time but it is also not very enjoyable if you get 3 or 4 rods hung in tree top at once so it is better for open water.
