it's been a while since i have logged on and i really have enjoyed catching up on the posts. as you all know the fishing has been few and very far between and so have the fish.
i recently got my dive certification and went on the hunt for something different, spiney lobsters. i just returned from a week in key largo testing my fishing skills and i must say that an ultralite rod/reel and a tube jig work much better than a net and aluminum stick. it was a very unforgettable experience. understanding the concept to catching lobsters is much easier than actually having to do it. one more reason to stick with what i know is the 6-8 seas of the atlantic in a 25' fishing vessel, crappie water is much, much calmer.
i am planning a trip for floundering in destin about oct/nov, i am being told that gigging them in the deeper water is much more fun and has much larger fish. i was also recently told that i could get a permit to spearfish in toledo bend, i am checking into that. shooting crappie, should be interesting.
i am glad to be finished running the roads for a little while, hopefully i can keep up with the board now. i read some pretty good things over the last few days, thanks for your posts and pics.

Spear-"fishing" a freshwater gamefish? I'd be real careful about doing that.

They spear fish non-gamefish at Toledo Bend and you only have to have a valid La. or Tx. fishing liscense. If the wind is not blowing too bad, visibility is good. I enjoy just seeing the game fish in their own environment. We normally go on the south end in late June. Catfish spearing is better earlier, during their spawn.
Spearfishing sounds like alot of fun, but with my luck, I would spear one big enough to drag me across the lake.. Congrats on the accomplishments and good luck on your future trips.
You can't fish with a hung line!
