Interesting looking fish, almost looks like red snapper. Did you catch them?

Yes, we each caught our 2 snapper and some king mackeral and a few ling. It's ashame the limit is only 2 we could have loaded the boat with them. We tried to target larger fish to make it worth while it's a long boat ride.

Why only a limint of two? Do they have to save the rest for the comercial fishers.

I think it used to be 5 per person, including crew if you chartered a boat, but they cut it down to "help replenish the population", and crew members are no longer counted if I remember correctly. Me, I'm patient enough for things like this since I have other fish I can catch, but really hope the limits go back up later so I can try again. One of my favorite saltwater species to eat...

Well I may be wrong, but I believe the reason that they have lowered the limit to 2 is because they take the "census" on red snapper in Florida! Now if you look at the # of oil rigs in Florida and then look at the # in Louisiana and Texas, you will find a HUGE difference in the # of fish you will find in the different states! You will almost always have MORE fish around structure then around no structure. We as Crappie fishermen/fisherwomen could have told them that!!!!!
