Thanks to all of you members of crappie.com for your prayers for Steve Welch.
On Saturday morning, I lost Steve. He had gotten up that morning like most mornings. I was set to mow the yard around 8am. The mower needed oil, and he came out to the storage building to guide me how to add it and place an attachment on it. He seemed short of breath somewhat but said he was ok. As I began mowing, he told me to keep the riding mower's engine revved up higher. Then he went inside. I mowed till about 9am, and got the weedeater, and could not crank it. I called for him from the patio and he didn't answer. I came inside and he was in his chair. I called him several times, then began tapping his shoulder. There was no response. I began to feel the worst had happened. I couldn't find a pulse, and no breathing. I began CPR in his chair and called 911. Our dogs were barking horribly while I tried CPR and a 911 call. I couldn't drag him to the floor to do CPR. He was too heavy. I ran outside and cried for help, and no response.. The paramedics from Caddo Parish Fire District 3 were there in 10 mins. There was never any heart rhythm, but they continued more effective compressions and placed an airway and bagged him. They were there about 30" before transporting him to WK med center.
Steve died right there in our living room in his chair. It was a sight I didn't ever want to see, since we saw it 4 weeks ago at Horseshoe, but I saw it again alone.
The visitation will be at Rose Neath South today, Monday from 5 pm to 8pm. His funeral is scheduled for 3:30 Tues. 8/11.
Again, thank you all for your prayers and messages. I was so glad we were able to come to the CDC get together on Cypress Lake and meet all of you. Fishing was his passion and mine.
