Default black bayoui benton

took my daughters fishing this morning and we headed to black bayou in benton. went under the bridge and found the deepest water i could find. had a decent day. caught 17 crappie, 2 catfish and a humongous chinq. aught all of the tight lining rosie reds about 2-4 feet off the bottom.

had a weird thing happen, after i would hook the rosie red and drop it in the lake, it would die. after about 5 minutes of fishing, we had to re-bait the hook. never had that happen before. any thoughts???

sorry that i don't have any pics, but my youngest daughter broke my camera and it is at dee's getting repaired.

Maybe there was a difference in water temp if they were in a bucket???

Who knows. Congrats on the catch though. Hope the new baby is doing fine.

I agree with Scott. I think there had to be a difference in water temp. I don't know about rosies but with reg. shiners it only takes a few degrees of temp to kill them. You can bring the water temp up or down slowly and they shouldn't die. I have had the same problem in the summer time.

Could it be lower oxygen content in the deeper water? I know shiners die quickly in such water.
You and your daughters had a great trip!! Thanks for the report

First off congrats on 17 from BB in the summer. Thats a nice haul!

Now for the dead minners...

I have had bait die like that in the hot months. I think its lack of oxygen in the lakes. Colder water holds more oxygen so in the winter its not a problem. Happened to me a lot on Grand Bayou in the summer. I think the minnow is just dropped into an area of water without enough oxygen to survive and thus he croaks.
