Default silver shiners vs. rosie reds

doc, way down here where we live you caint find the rosie reds, so when i use shiners its the silver ones. I have only used the rosies a couple of times and that was at Larto during the gatherings and i don't think it would have made a difference which color we used. But the rosie's seem to be tougher and can take a hit better than the silver ones. And they are usually smaller and an easier target.

The rosies are tougher and easier to keep alive, when it's really hot. If your buying them by the pound you will get allot more for your money, cause they are usually smaller than minnows. The crappie seem to hit either of them the same in my experience.

You can fish for an hour with a rosie, pickup your pole and run the lake 15-20 minutes and your rosie is still flippin and floppin and ready to go.

well, i appreciate the info. but today something happened to me with shiners that has never happened beofre. i have oftern had trouble keeping shiners alive in the bucket when it was hot, but today, after i would hook the rosie red and drop her in the lake, she would die with in minutes. but i did not have a sinbgle one die in the bucket. weird??????? any thoughts on why?? i was fishing black bayou in benton.

Used to happen to me until I started tempering the water in my bucket to match lake temps. I keep my main stock in a separate, colder, and highly aerated container. Sort of like balancing the temp. on new aquarium fish. Sounds like too much of a temp. change going into lake water shocked them. My 2 cents.

do you think that this would have happened with silver shiners?? 'cause this is only the second time i have used red ones and right now i am not a big fan of them. 50% of the time dying like that ain't good odds??

i have never had silvers do that.
