Default tube jig, jig head questions

When you guys use jigs, do you prefer using a stick gaurd when fishing in the brush? And if you do, do you use the jig heads that have the nylon brush guard built in or the plastic stick gaurds that you can slide on the eye of the hook that comes in packs of 20 or so? I use to prefer the later when fishing with a curly tail jig and pulling it through brush, (that use to be the only way i fished but since moving down here and starting to fish with a missouri boy i use the other kind of jig ),i have started to use the nylon ones that are put in the jig mold, and i think those work better for getting the hook in a fish.
what do you guys think? Thanks

I started pouring my own jigheads awhile back but they don't have the guards on them. I always felt that if it will keep the jig from snagging a limb, then why wouldn't it keep the jig from snagging a fish. Just the way I feel about it.

Good point "J", however if using a stick gaurd it seems i am able to get into much deeper brushby fishing the grub like a plastic worm almost, it is awsome to feel the jig bouncing over the limbs and then once the jigs comes over a limb and falls that is when the crappie hits it! It is the way i fished in Tn. It seems to work well here for brush piles and docks, but the vertical fishing a tube jig is new to me, thanks for you input. -nathan
