Default Orange Grove Location

Being new to South Louisiana, I occasionally see people talking about Orange Grove. Is this around the Bayou Black area? Thanks.

Nuge, It's about half way between Houma and Bayou Black Marina. It's closer for me to launch in Houma at the free launch and saves truck gas. How about telling us a little about yourself, especially how you picked the name NUGE. I'm really interested in that. Being new to South La. where do you come from and do you live in Houma or close by. Oh, and by the way welcome to CDC I hope you enjoy being here and sharing.

My username "Nuge" is derived from my last name, Nugent. I'm orginally from Pollock, LA but I moved to Thibodaux when I got out of college in 03'. Since I've moved the saltwater fishing bug has bitten me pretty hard but I have not forgotten my roots.

I bought myself a boat a few weeks ago and I'm trying to learn a few spots around the area. I'm finding it to be challenging learning new waters and realize that I took Saline/Larto and Little River for granted while growing up. Especially when it comes to finding Shiners! I have found one place in Houma that sells them, just not during the summer months. It will all come together, I'm just looking for a little advice and guidance in the right direction.

Thanks.

Welcome to CDC from the bayou (Houma) . You should be able to find some realy good info on here. For shiners in Houma Philo's gas station and I think Capt Alan's has some are thay did at one time. If you use google earth Orange Grove is at 29deg 32' 08.02"N 90deg 50' 32.87"W.

As I see you name written here makes me think people are talking to me. For a long time at work, in fact a few people still call me "nuge", I answered to that name. You know how people are at work, they have to find you a nickname. My name went from Eugene to Nugene to Nugent (after Ted) finally shortened to Nuge. Anyway, so you live in Thibodeaux. Thats not a bad choice, I used to live there myself in my younger days. Fishing fresh water down here is a lot different than fishing the lakes of the central and northern part of the state. Like one old boy said, down here we fish reel deep. Meaning you stick your 6' rod tip down into the water and you will probably touch bottom about the time your reel touches the water, now thats reel deep. I'd be glad to sit down with you some time and talk over some maps of the fresh water scene and the techniques. You can maybe help me out also with some info about Larto. I hope to make the gathering up there this winter. Perhaps you could join us. Until later.

Philo's was the only place that I found Shiners. I called them and they said they would not have any until the fall b/c of the heat.

Thanks for the Orange Grove coordinates. From the looks of it, I would probably be better off launching in Houma. Appears to be a pretty long run from Bayou Black.

Thanks for the offer Gene. I may have to take you up on it.

Default No ponytail

But I did have shoulder length hair and rode a motorbike. I like to shoot things too.
