Default Baton Rouge newbie with 10 foot bateau

Hello everyone. Great looking site. I've lurked here for about a month now. I'm from the Baton Rouge/Zachary Area and I have a small 10 foot bateau/jon boat. I only have a little 30lb thrust trolling motor on the back. Are there any lakes or ponds around here that a guy can go to catch a few sac a lait that you all may know about? Thanks and again. Ya'll take care.

First off welcome to the site! The only place I would know of close to there would be the basin. I don't know where to go in there though, maybe some others on here can help you out. Good Luck.

Welcome ! Don't know of any ponds. The oxbow, "Old River" would be a area you could fish with a 10' . You can put in at the "Old River Landing" and fish the piers and rafts that hold a lot of fish.

During the week there is not a lot of boat traffic. Pick a day with calm winds and wear a life jacket.

"Old River" is about 50 miles or so from Baton Rouge.

We live in a small community called "Chenal", in Pointe Coupee Parish. We are about 21 miles north west of the I-10 bridge in BR. Old River is about 35 miles from my house, a few miles past the town of Morganza. Cross the Morganza Spillway locks, continue down about a mile, take the first black top road to your right, it was just resurfaced. Drive to the end of this road and take a left. Old River Landing is on the right, cross the levee.

The oxbow, "False River" is another area that you may check. There is a public landing in New Roads.
Old River is just a better place to fish for sacalait.

Welcome to the site. Lots of great people here with lots of great info. I have a little 10ft jon boat as well, i like to use it to get to the hard to reach places, cuts off the rivers, canals and such. Dont know anything bout the BR area, sorry I couldn't help you out on that one.
