Default Advice for a Dad? (New Crappie Fisherman)

First off let me say what a GREAT community this is. I was googling for fishing tips for Cypress Lake and ran across this board and I'm amazed!

So here is my predicament. I'm in my early thirties, recently relocated to the area and have a young son who is completely enamored with fishing. When I was very young I went crappie fishing with my dad and uncle several times but have not really fished other than some pond hopping in at least 15 years.

My son is now 6 and all he talks about is wanting to go fishing daily. We have borrowed papa's old fiberglass 15 foot bass boat and acquired all kinds of new gear from the local Academy and Bass Pro so we have all the gear but ole Dad here is clueless on what to do next

We live on hwy 3 very close to Benton/Cypress Lake. We've been out on Cypress Lake a couple of times but I have no idea where to go to fish, how to fish (depth, baits etc). ANY advice you might could provide to get a new Dad started would be much appreciated. I can't stand to think about my son fishing with his old man and knowing how clueless I am (we're supposed to know everything, right? )

Well soueee to youtoo!
Welcome aboard!
From an LSU grad.
There are a lot of folks who fish those two lakes, and if you keep asking 'em nicely, they will definitely (Maybe) clue you in on the particulars. Not for your sake but for your son's sake! Can't have a six-year-old going around not catching fish!
Again, welcome to the site. It gets better than me!
Pete

Welcome to the site Hogfan! Doc and Pastor can surely fill you in on Cypress. Also if you see an old Cajun by name of Dave, he's pretty up on it too. Hope you and your son get on a good mess soon and keep him enthralled with it. Mine prefers to play with the bait!

Welcome from Ga., Hogfan. Looks like you have some pretty good invites to go fishing and if youre serious...take 'em up on it. IMO, you'll learn WAY MORE going with somebody already established on the lake vrs. trying from scratch on a brand new (to you) lake. Good luck, and get that boy on some fish!

Welcome to you Hogfan, well i guess we have a BamaFan we can allow a Hogfan on here too! JK, good to have you with us. If you can make it up to Darbonne this weekend you can learn alot from the members that will be at the gathering and you can put some faces with names. If not, I would definetely take Doc up on his offer!
