Default Questions for Louisiana Members

I have never been to your great state, and I am due to be dispatched either to your state or your neighbor to the East, Mississippi. I will be down there during the month of December selling fireworks. I don't know what city or area of the state I could put in at this time. I am just trying to get a little ahead of the game. I will be pulling my own RV trailer and I will be staying on site.

My questions to you are:

Is there one cell phone company that works better than others down there? I have Verizon up here in Missouri.

Also what is the daily average temperature in your state during the month of December? Do I need to pack my coveralls?

Any other ideas or suggestions that you could provide would be helpful. Either PM me or post it on this thread.

Thanks,

DMW1960
From Missouri

hey dmw,

the great thing/bad thing abouit louisiana weather is that if you don't like it, wait a few minutes, it will change. the weather could be very cold to kinda warm. if youi are gonna be outside, youi just might wanna bring the coveralls. but also pack some clothes that are not so heavy.

as far as cell coverage, i have at&t, but the standing joke is there is no need to change, because they all suck. seriously, i like at&t, but i have friends that have verizon and they like it too.

i am in the northwest corner of the state. good luck

If it were me, clothes wise I'd bring your cover-alls for at night, a pair of thermals, maybe a couple short sleeve t-shirts, a pair of jeans, and several lighter long sleeve shirts that you could roll up the sleeves if you needed to. The past years have varied so much in the winter bc of the humidity we have. Your cell phone coverage should be fine here for we have Verizon towers.

all cell phones suck i guess they think us cajun rednecks still use a can and string so they never really put cell towers up ya know. as far the clothes its winter and summer at the same time the humidity will cut right through you if it is cold and if it is warm it will soak you so really your not going to like the weather it will suck just like the cell service. if any of it actually works for ya then your doing good.

Waxnslabs,

I don't know if I am going to be working out of a tent or a building. I just purchased a 2002 - 27' RV trailer with air and heat so I can stay in it. Thanks for the warning about the Humidity! Hopefully I can get a day or two to look around at your crappie fishing areas. I would like to come back when it isn't about work.

Thanks again!

Saline it sounds just like Missouri during July you can cut the air with a knife. I mean I am in Springfield, MO, had my cell phone sitting on a desk today right next to me. The phone never rang, but I got the beep that I had a message! A minute latter my wife called me and the phone worked fine! Used to have Alltel until they got bought out! I personally think using a can with string would be an improvement myself!

Thanks

Hmm, how to dress for La. weather.. let's see, long sleeves, pants, jacket and insulated boots, shorts and tee shirt and flip flops. And don't forget the umbrella or a slicker suit. It may change from 45 in the a.m. on up to 80 in the evening.

As for cellphones, I have Sprint and AT&T. Sprint has great crystal clear reception as long as you stay around the major highways and interstates, but sucks if you get in the boondocks. AT&T normally has a signal in the majority of the state. I had Centenial Wireless before and the signal was excellent almost anywhere I went, but switched to sprint for a better package. Never dealt with Verizon, so no comment on them.
On another note, I know some people that have the "prepaid" AT&T phones and they claim to have a signal anywhere.

I have centennial wireless and I get service near about everywhere I've ever been! Even can get a couple bars at the camp... enough to send a text out if need be.
