    Default Worm Bedding

I ordered some euro night crawlers a couple months ago, and they seem to be doing fine. After much research on bedding I decided to us the ''Black Kow'' manure from Walmart and nothing else with it. The worms seem to be alright with it, but it gets very compact, and I worry about it being to compact for the worms. I think I may be over watering the bed. Everything I've read about preparing the bedding say's to be able to squeeze a handful and only a few drops of water should come out. Now to squeeze a handful on manure and get a few drops of water, the mature is like wet mud, it's to wet. Have any of yall had to deal with this using mature? I know a lot of the guys use peat moss but I've read some bad things about using peat, like you should rinse it real good, and change it like every 15 days.... My worms are still alive, so maybe I'm over concerned with it. Any help in this would be appreciated....

I have had Euros for about six years. I don't understand the "rinsing it". I do soak the peat moss for several days prior to changing it to make sure it is moist throughout. I change the bedding twice a year. I began with 400 worms and now have 3000 - 4000. The only problem I have had is, I don't take them fishing as often as I'd like.

Hey Ken...I understand not fishing as often as you would like...lol. Do you mix anything with bedding, or just peat moss by it self? I have thought about mixing half peat moss, and half manure, but don't know if that would help? Do you loosen the bedding up ever?

I don't know about mixing it. I've only used the peat moss. I stir it up good every two to four weeks. I think that helps aerate the bedding and the worms seem to like it.

What, and how often to you feed them? What size container do you have them in?

I feed them fine chicken feed and feed them daily. No more feed than can be eaten in one day. I have them in a 20 gallon black storage tote. Do not use clear containers.

Interesting about the manure. Do the worms eat the manure? Pop
