Hello! Any tips for locations/inflatables?
I'm new to his group, and am interested in learning more about hotspots and how to catch crappie in Eastern PA, especially York County, and Harford County, Maryland.
Currently, we are non-boaters, but my older 3 kids and I really enjoy the time we've spent at the various lakes, ponds and creeks we've visited.
I've been considering getting an inflatable boat just to get us out on the water. Anybody have any thoughts or suggestions?

Hey FD! Hope I'm not too late on this.
I can only help you with 50% of what you're looking for.
York County I can do.
Maryland I can't.
Locations I can share.
Inflatables are merely life vests for myself. :D
If I was to fish from shore in York County, two lakes hit the top of the list right off the bat:
Lake Williams and Lake Redman
Both have excellent crappie fishing from shore. Williams, it's as easy as following any of the well worn paths around the lake. Two of the better spots are anything to the right of the boat ramp the whole way to the spillway. Stumps line this whole section of shoreline and the crappie are never far away.
The other is the small cove to the left of the dam. You can fish almost this complete cove from the shore.
Lake Redman - this lake has a little less shoreline access, but with a little determination you can get to some really good places. Look for any tree in the water along the shoreline by the pavilions. The creek channel runs along part of this shoreline, so you'll be fishing some deeper water.
Both lakes - as far as quantity is concerned - are hard to beat by fishing a minnow under a slip bobber. Adjust the depth until you find where the fish are holding.
Other area lakes that have some shoreline access to good fishing are:
Lake Marburg (Project 70) - concentrate on the bridges.
Pinchot Lake, Pinchot State Park - if you don't mind fishing a lake with a history of sewage line breaks over the last (3-5)years. I can't give any first hand tips from here - I have issues with that lake. It does produce some dandy crappies each year (usually in the fall by the dam), so they are there.
There have also been crappie caught in the Falmouth area of the Susky too. This is the area directly across from the York Haven Hydro plant.
Hope this gives you a few new spots to try.
Keep an eye on the board, you never know what will be posted about the area.

Thanks Big Zig! I may be taking my older boys out for a belated birthday celebration this weekend. We had fun at smaller ponds, but were catching smaller fish. Every night my oldest boy (age 7) prays, "Lord, help us to catch big fish the next time we go."
I think we might try Lake Williams. If we do, I'll have to let you know how it went.
Thanks again!
