Thanks for your time. I for the most part Coon Hunt, but my family loves to fish. I bought a boat and we are going fishing. I would like to learn how to catch Crappie with the family. We live a mile from lake Linville in Mt. Vernon and Have an Easy trip to; Cumberland, Woods Creek, Ceder Creek. Any help would be appreciated.

Hacker,
Welcome to the board. This is a great site--lots of good info to get you in the game. I never really fished for crappie before, but I learned a lot about it on this site.
I'm just up the road from you in Richmond. We fish the local ponds mostly, but occasionally make it to Linville and other places you mentioned. Although there are guys on here who are always catchin' them like mad, that hasn't been my experience in these lakes. I feel lucky to catch about 10 fish in a couple of hours on the water, and I also will fish for bass and bluegill, depending on what mood I'm in and the fish are in.
There are tons of tips on here about rods, line, bait, lures, etc. All of it is good, but a lot of it is contradictory: some guys won't fish with anything but minnows, some guys won't allow minnows in their boats. Some guys say a certain kind of rod is crap, then some other guys say they've been using it for 20 years and love it. You just gotta take any advice as a suggestion, and then test it to see if it works for you. BUt I think that's part of the fun.
