Any Advice for an Out of Stater - next week? Staying at Moors Resort -Gilbertsville
I am bringing my sons and meeting my dad there. I am from Georgia and my dad is from Missouri and KY Lake is right in the middle. We are coming in on Thursday March 26-29 for some Crappie fishing.
Anyone have any advice? What colors are you all using? How deep are the fish?
I appreciate any help you can give.
Thanks
Joe
Not sure about Moors area, but I fished Blood River Monday and Tuesday.Blue/White Southern Pro Scale Head and Minnow tubes caught the most for me this week, caught a few on yellow/chart also. Most all the keepers I caught were in 8-12ft of water fishing jigs 5-7ft deep. These fish were in spots very close to shallow water though, depending on what this little cold front does to water temp, may be able to catch them shallower by next week. Water temp was 57 when I quit Tuesday at noon.
Get you a good map. Stay between the buoys on the main lake & use the crossing channels if you head for the east side. The lake is in winter pool & the water is low so be careful. You might get a few in the mouth of Pisqah bay on minnows fished about 10' down. A green jig casted to rocky banks & reeled back slow is working for me. One more thing, 6lb fluorecarbon get some.
Me and my buddies will be fishing down there Sat and sun so I'll get back with ya on Mon and let you know what was working this weekend. I thought I had my own approach worked out for the weekend till I got up this morning and saw a chance of showers and cloudy all weekend so I will have a little trial and error goin on myself. But the way my luck usually runs I am surprised it did'nt snow this weekend.Get back with ya Monday hopefully with some good news about where they are.
While I haven't actually fished it this year alot of the reports are saying fish a jig with some blue in it. Black/blue blue/white
Toona,
A couple of words of advice. (1) Stay shallow. Look for rocky banks. The blacks are moving in NOW. (2) You can't go wrong on Ky Lake with Black/Chart with silver glitter. Also try Red/Chart with silver glitter and Orange/Chart with silver glitter. Stop at Judy's Bait Shop on 68 and pick some up if you ain't got any.
The only way to have a good fishing spot is to make it yourself!
Toona,
Talked to a buddy tonight and he had 15 keepers. Cork and minnow 2' deep along shore and docks. Good luck..
Take you kids fishing today!!! They will be grown tomorrow.
thanks for the info guys!
Is ther a size limit on KY Lake for crappie?
Whats the current water temp? What colors are they hitting on?
crappie have to be 10", water is mid-fiftyish, blue/white and yellow/chart was best for me early last week.
Heading up to KY with the kids Thurs-Sat - staying at Moors Resort(Gilbertsville)
Any advice to colors would be great...do you do better with minnows on your jigs? What weight jigs? How shallow/deep are they?
