    Default Alumacraft Prowler 165

    Hello All,

I'm in the market for my first boat and I've found a good deal on a Prowler 165 with a 50hp suzuki. I will mainly be fishing Taylorsville and Louisville's surrounding lakes. I'm fairly new to fishing and completely green when it comes to boats. Will two people be able to fish this boat comfortably? Also I'm down to inches with garage storage so a 175 is out of the question. Thanks

One person in front and one person in back will be good.

You have a swing tongue put on any trailer, and fit a bigger boat in your garage. You won't regret getting a bigger boat.

If you are using the front and rear platform it will be fine, I also have a double portable seat I use up front on mine for Crappie Fishing. It is a tight fit but the wife and I fish from the front of the boat. Like previously stated it does have a swing tongue. I just wish it was a little wider. The good news it drafts in very little water, and this is the main reason I bought mine, don't regret buying it at all, love all Aluminum, no carpet, so easy to clean. My 165 has a Yamaha 50 and pushes me along just fine.

Awesome guys...thanks for the reply’s. This boat trimmed down with the tongue swung in leaves me 6 inches to spare.

I pulled the trigger and bought the boat. My concern is, it only has a 6 gallon fuel tank. What size tank and run time do you get with your yamaha? I'm just trying to get a rough estimate of what to expect.

I'm thinking that a 6gal tank should last you at least a couple of trips to Taylorsville Lake or similar sized lakes.

I used to have a 1550 Glasstream fiberglass boat & 70 Yammy ... pretty much drove it like I stole it when running Taylorsville, and never had to switch gas tanks during a days fishing (even the run & gun style I did back when I had the boat).
Even when fishing 3people out of my buddy's previous boat (80's Tracker TX17 w/50Merc), we didn't burn a tank in a days fishing at Taylorsville, even though we ran practically from one end to the other at times.

If you're worried about running out of gas ... and you can't fit another tank in it (even a 3gal tank), you might consider a plastic gas can of a size that will fit back there (or under the console, if necessary). Even a 1gal can will insure that you get back to the ramp & on the trailer.

Like Pappy said, that 6 gallon tank should be more than enough. I have a Mercury 60 and can run for days on the 12 gallon tank.

That specific model is not listed, but you can extrapolate your range. https://yamahaoutboards.com/en-us/ho...ance-bulletins
