It's too easy to miss a bite if you're looking at your other poles. It's hard. I tell people at work that I work way harder fishing than I actually do at work. They laugh but I'm serious. It takes a lot of concentration and coordination. Like was mentioned previously, run your drag light enough that you can strip line from the reel. That is, if you're fishing shallower than the length of your poles. You may try using 2 poles then 3 then 4. It takes some time to get it down pat. Just keep at it. A springtime trip to green river will break you in the right way!
i am curious what is it about green river that will help me i have never been

actually i just have those cheap reals that look like fly reels there is no way to cast them at all just for jigging

I use 14's and you have to have long arms to get to em with a net. Just swing em in if need be but they come at ya fast.

Sorry if I confused you. I didn't mean to imply "casting" with the baitcaster reels, just that with the ones with a thumb bar release you can lower the fish down (one handed) to where you can grab it or net it ... and do it easier than with a spinning reel or the reels you are using.

You have to figure it out fast down there because when you get into them you could have all poles down at once. I guess the number of crappie at green is what I'm referring to. Last spring, 2 guys, over 500 fish caught in a day and a half. But the keeper to dink ratio is usually 1 to 4 for me. Lots of measuring.
