    Default Cave run lake

Anyone been to cave run lately? Was looking for some ideas on where to launch or what to look for. I’ve never been there before but I’ve been wanting to go for some time. I’m planning on going in the next couple weeks so I can see the lake while the water is still low and get an idea on what it looks like. Any info is helpful.

    Thanks
    Jesse

Buddy, they've got 6 more feet to drain out of it before it even gets to Summer Pool (12' if they try and bring it back to Winter pool).

My advice on where to launch would depend on where you intend to fish. That being said .... I've almost always launched at the Alfrey ramp, and a few times at the Scott Creek Marina ramp. For Spring spawn Crappie fishing, I've mostly fished in the back end of Cassidy Ford Hollow .... and along the rock cliff bank between there and Shrout Hollow. But, that was eons ago, long before the KDFWR put out all those fish attractors. ( https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer...604999997&z=13 )

There is no size limit on Crappie at Cave Run Lake, but the state-wide creel limit is now 20/person/day. And there are no fish cleaning stations that I know of. COE Ramp fees are $3/day (or so the website says) but could be higher (like the $5/day fee at Green River Lake).

That's about all I can tell ya, as I haven't been there but once (Fall) in the last 20yrs or so. You might get some more updated info from Littlejohn, as I believe he fishes there now & then.

Put this site in your favorites & you'll be better informed on lake levels : Louisville District Daily Lake Report (at least for the lakes listed, anyway)

Anyone been out on Cave run lately? I know its up 10ft as of today but hoping they pull it down by the weekend, also wondering what kind of h2o temps?

Sorry, Tom .... but, I doubt they could pull it down much by the weekend. And it's about 12.6ft above Summer Pool & still rising (0.7ft since yesterday). They're pumping it out at ~2200cfs ... but, it's coming in almost twice as fast. And even if they crank it up to the 4500cfs output level, like they did last month, it would still take nearly a couple of weeks to get it back down to Summer Pool.

As far as water temps ... my guess is that it's still in the 40's and likely to stay there for awhile, what with all this cold front rain & snow business coming over the next week or so.

I was out last Saturday didn't do any good water is 15' above summer pool and makes for tuff fishing. If we get some warm weather you can still catch a few hopefully it is going to warm up this next week.

Thanks for the reply, we are going out this afternoon, and again in the morning. Hoping to pick up a few trolling minnows. I will report back.

The bite was tuff this weekend, 50degree water, 12ft above summer pool and stained. We pushed minnows in Scott's creek and Long branch, fish were 20-25ft in 30-60 fow. All were under 10" and released
