Sounds like a nice trip, aside from the heat.
I've skipped a lot of days because of the heat lately, I just can't take it since my surgery. So today I was fishing before 6:00 am and I really didn't see much difference between the early bite and mid morning. Flicker shad fire tiger took most of the fish and I had it on a down rod at about 10'. I marked plenty of fish but found only a few schools that would hit. Got my limit, ten, as that's all this ole man wants to clean anymore. Lost quite a few at the boat, not sure why but all in all a good day. Off the lake by 11:30 as it got too hot. The weatherman lied, he said we'd have a high of 88, it was 92 when I left. Like Pab, I'm ready for some fall fishing.

Great job Russ. I'm spending so much on ice these days that we have seriously thought about either investing in an ice machine or a dedicated freezer at the house to keep full of ice. I fill my front livewell with ice before I ever hit the lake then add just enough water to let the fish be covered.

I've stumbled onto a reusable jell pack that you can freeze and have three of them. They're pretty durable as I've had them for several years. I put one in my drink/snack cooler, one goes in the live well when the first crappie is caught. The third goes in the sink on my fish cleaning table. The jell pack is about the size of a quart freezer bag.

Everything is possible. The impossible just takes longer!
When we were living in Gulf Shores we bought a used HOSHIZAKI KM201 ice maker from a food service reseller that was virtually new but had a missing stainless side panel. We had $1,200 in it by the time I plumbed it into my garage but it made 200lbs of crescent cube ice per day. Our return on investment was a little over two years because of the amount of ice we were using and market price for a 20lb bag. I like the tiny cubelet ice better but we couldn't find a used maker that had the chest style hopper where you could scoop large amounts of ice at a time.
