Ive been looking for a reason to go down to Cave run, this may be it. Are there any decent camp grounds close to the water where Me and buddy could pitch a tent for the weekend? and I here mixed things about ramps, is there a prefered ramp? thanks
Daniel Boone National Forest - Cave Run Lake
Twin Knobs boat ramp is known as Alfrey Launch Ramp .... and according to the above website, requires a $3/1day fee. But, I'd call 606-784-6428 and check to make sure.
I would also suspect that any campground ramp would be for the use of campers only, but again I would call and find out for sure. They can also tell you the closest place to purchase a day pass, for wherever you intend to launch.
And according to this : Louisville District > Missions > Civil Works > Water Information > Updated Lake Temperatures and Dissolved Oxygen Lev > Cave Run Profile ..... your best bet would be to fish in <15ft of water.

Thanks for the info Pappie, that chart on dissolved oxygen is good info., its was last Dec since I've been down that way, tryed My luck at Fly fishing for trout during the delayed harvest season and at that time it was hard to find a thawed stream to fish and I quickly decided I was getting to old for tent camping when it was 20 degrees out, lol. I will plan on Cave run in Sept or Oct, My buddy needs to request vaca time.
