Yep .... that's why I put up the long poles & got out my casting rod when you said "if you didn't get hung up, you weren't catching any". That told me they were holding on shallow wood, and not just in shallow water.

I might try it again, next week, myself. Hopefully they're still in the same places.

Fished with my friend, Rachel, and brought 6 nice keepers home for her. Still catching them shallow in the afternoon (after 3PM) and this time they were caught on "Popsicle" Roadrunners and weedless jigs. Had to resort to weedless jigs because we kept getting hung up with the Roadrunners, as the water is down 1.7ft below Pool. Water Temp was just shy of 78deg.

My buddy, Paul, and I went to T-ville today ... caught fish off and on all day. Most caught around standing timber in 10-15fow, anywhere from 3ft down to nearly 10ft down. The fish did seem to rise in their holding depth as the afternoon wore on. I'd say we caught around 20-25 fish, with about half of them being keeper size. All fish were released.
Water temps ranged from 73deg - 76deg .... and water has a slight brownish look to it, like it may have started to turn over or at least tried to start.

    No pics taken this trip.

Hey everyone! I've been lurking on this forum for a little while trying to pick up on a thing or two.I've recently started hitting Taylorsville when I can.I bought myself a decent little perception pescador 12 foot kayak so that I can hit the water and wet a line on the cheap.I haven't done much fishing since I was a teen, but have always enjoyed it. Besides that there's nothing that beats the taste of some deep fried crappie. Thanks for all that y'all have shared for newbies like myself. So my question is what can I expect to see as fall progresses? Is there a key temperature or areas where these fish will make a big push to fatten up before winter sets in? Thanks in advance for any tips y'all might have!

Can't really give you much in the way of useful info for Fall fishing at Taylorsville Lake, as I haven't fished there much past this time of year, in years past. I have caught Crappie on laydowns on steep banks, in Dec/Jan, on jigs ... right against the bank & trunk of the tree, in less than 5ft of water, as well as 5-8ft deep out over the branches of those trees (out over 15-20ft of water). At those times, I was fishing laydowns on the banks receiving sunlight from just after sunup ... whereas, normally I find them on laydowns on shaded banks during the majority of the late Spring to late Summer period.

Hopefully, others that fish the lake during the Oct/Nov period on a regular basis will chime in with more info. Best I can do is report on my trips, as they occur, for as long as I continue to fish Taylorsville.

Thanks for the welcome! I will certainly stay tuned to this and other sub forums for continuing education. It's nice to see a forum where questions are welcomed instead of ridiculed by internet snobs. I am looking forward to some success of my own and sharing with y'all as you do with me.

I was there Monday (12th) and saw no signs of any fish kill.

    Water was 70 degrees.
Turnover has started in the Settlers Trace area, on up the lake about a mile
or so the water looked really good.
The crappie were hard to catch Monday, the fronts and wind made it tough.
I did get a few but most were in the late afternoon in the black water
closer to Settlers. I couldn't get a bite up around Chowning.
Going again tomorrow, should be better (I hope)
