OR ... jigs, jigs, & jigs :D ..... or even a combination of the two
Live bait - crankbaits - jigs - and combinations thereof can be trolled for Crappie. Various trolling methods are used, depending on the bait being used & the seasonal location of the fish.

I fished there yesterday with a friend. we fished the flats towards the dam from holmes bend. fished in 20 to 22 fow, fishing 18 feet deep with jigs tipped with minnows. we started at daylight and had our limit by 10:53 am.

sorrow to get back to you so late.[honey dos all day] we were straight lineing and kind of moving in large circles to try and stay on the schools.
How much weight were you having to use to stay down while straight lining? I was a member of the armada for about an hour and a half that morning but only managed 4 keepers. I'm new to the crappie thing and am looking for pointers or what I'm doing wrong. If you see a younger guy in a silver/blue bass boat out there during the week, that'd be me. Thanks.
Fellows, I am real curious how the tight line works as well. I like to cast but have been seeing a lot of boats tight lining.
I heard something like a minature carolina rig with a certain type jig tipped with a minnow.
Any details would be appreciated.
Thanks,
guys, the way I rig mine is I put a bobber stop on my line at 20 feet then I put on a 1/2 oz. sliding weight then a bead then tie a swivel then a 2 foot leader then a 32 oz. jig head with the color of the day and tip with a minnow. I rig six or eight different colors til I find witch one they want the most then I switch the rest. The bobber stop is so I can let down to the same depth every time.

I like the idea of the bobber stop. Thanks for the tip. What kind of rods do most of you use? I need to invest some more money in this expensive passion I have.
I use 7 foot and 10 foot b&m crappie rods and cardinal 102 spining reels with 8 lb. mr crappie yellow
