    Default help at taylorville lake

Hey guys, Got drawed for quota hunt on Taylorville Lake wma. Those of you who know the lake I need some info. Would it be better to bring my pontoon to get to more remote areas ? I have never been on the lake and would not know anything about it. Is the lake easy to navigate in the dark as we would have to be in our stands at day light. Any info would be greatly
    appreciated.

I can't be much help, but I will say that going up some of the creek channels can be pretty hairy in the day time. Tree tops just below the water can be tricky to navigate. Be careful.

    Exclamation Hey Larry ....

I'd say that you could probably set up a tree stand on your pontoon and park it in one of the ramp parking areas ... and see/shoot more deer than you'd ever hope to see/shoot in the woods :D
I used to see 20-50 deer all along the road into the launch ramp at Possum Ridge ... and sometimes a majority of them were just wandering around the parking lot ....

but, seriously ... there's only a couple of creeks that you could get a toon back into, without much difficulty. The bigger creek branches are about it ... as the smaller ones are pretty much standing trees from side to side & front to back. Where you have your stand would be the main factor there, as to whether or not you could get to it by water. You might be better served by asking the KDFWR guys if that's a feasable venture.
Also, I'm not sure I'd want to leave my boat unattended for any length of time .... I'm just sayin

Whatever you decide to do ... I hope ya gets a good buck !!

    ... cp

I have hunted in a couple of the quota hunts before and always had good luck going to the end of Palmer road and hunting the hills along the river. Good luck.

    Default Try this area

Find Briar Ridge Rd on map. Right where the private land meets state property, hunt directly below this. There are a ton of deer here and you can access this area by pontoon. I used to quota hunt this area but from Briar Ridge Rd. Very steep near the top and lots of thickets. I have seen some really nice bucks below where I was hunting from the top of the ridge. This is where the main lake makes a horseshoe turn at the northern part of the lake in this area. You will be able to see how close the road is to the lake, but it is very steep there and closest to the lake. Here is a link to a map:

    Good Luck,

    Default hunt from heck

went on the draw hunt myself. my wife, and my two sons. Not one deer was seen. I only heard a couple of shots while we were hunting. Saw two deer at the motel . Total. Besides that. got hit by a car with no lights on right after we hunted saturday night. Totaled my f250 . we've been hunting and came back without a deer before but never without a truck

I'll second that. I have hunted up there for several years and have seen a ton of does and only a few small bucks.
