Meldahl
The sauger are showing up by the wall and the hybrid bite is still there but slowing down. Some crappie being caught every once in a while, we are fishing just right below the dam. Jigs from a 1/16 to 1/2 oz mix of colors, or tipped with night cawler or minnows.

EZGO,
I was down there last saturday. I didnt witness a soul catch a keeper sauger. I fished from before daylight until about 1 pm on ky side, total, 8 sauger, one keeper 17 in(gave away), and the rest were 13" cigars that I thew back. I bet I lost 435 jigs, and I fished hard, hoping I could find the motherload. All the other fishermen caught a total of ONE white bass/hybrid the whole time I was there. They just weren't biting or had taken their vacation before the big feast last weekend. Glad theyve finally moved in there, I was having much better luck fishing main river ABOVE Maysville fishing dropoffs. Might try this weekend. Have you been catching em ezgo or someone been tellin ya bout em? Were you there last saturday, might have seen/talked to u? Thx for the info.

I know your pain on the jigs when I long rod it up there I pour my own spoons because you loose alot and at 4 bucks a hit it gets costly and for the jigs I loose my fair share to I found a guy that makes them and they are cheap to me so I order from him www.jigs4u.com
. I am always trying to figure out how to curve the budget. Also I use 15lb braid so I can feel the bottom better. Have you been to the cave lately me and dad was thinking on going down in the next week or two.

The old guy at the Augusta, Ky. bait shop told me they were having good luck at Meldahl also. I went out a couple of days last week and couldn't do any good. About the time the creeks start to clear up, it starts raining again.

Ezgo,
I went to the cave yesterday. Had motor issues so could only run the trollin' motor. Started fishing for musky since I could run to any crappie spot. Actually raised 2 and had em follow all the way to boat and chase my figure eight. Both of em would have been the biggest I had ever caught tho. Probaby 35-40 inchers. Fished a couple hrs and hit the road. Still trying to fix my motor as we speak, really getting aggrevated, need to figure out why this keeps happening. Anyone good at working on small outboards id be interested in talking to. I need a good used 40 hp tiller....good luck w/ that tho

Hard to find a good marine mechanic around here. Which is funny living next to the Ohio river. At least one you can trust. Been there and done that.

Who ever is catchin em' below meldahl Id like to know thier secret. Im no sauger pro but I can usually catch them when theyre around. I just got back from meldahl and didnt get a bite all morning. Water even looked terrible. Didnt see anyone else catch anything either. Werent many ppl fishin like there are when the sauger are in there. Im starting to wonder if this is just heresay cuz a lot of pple I talked to there said they had also heard they were killing them down there. I went last weekend hearing they were bititng well and only caught eight small ones and witnessed no one else catch a fish. I know theyre biting in creek mouths etc. but I dont think theyve moved in to meldahl yet at all in any numbers. I want to know the big secret of who's catchin em'.

Hey eky there comeing in I just wish I would of posted this when the river level below meldahl is 21-22 feet stay home that is out of my own personal experiences. If you are down there and the water is that high get right up against the wall and try there, what size rod and what kind of line are you using along with what oz jig and the colors. I use a eight six and eight foot and seven foot spinning rod with the jigs any where from a sixteenth all the way up to a half and use grubs shad bodies and I use some kind of spray scent on my jigs. when the water temp gets below 43 degrees to 40 I will usually go to live bait once below 40 the bite is usually bad. The grubs and shad bodies I get on AA highway in Campbell County. The Marothon gas station, If they dont have what you need I also get my plastic from the maker WELCOME TO ACTION PLASTICS
. Forgot to ad I use 15 lb braid until it gets to cold then I go to mono. Next time you go sort of go to the center facing ohio in the center of the wall but leaning more towards going to your left and throw towards the edge of the gate right there and let it drop as much as you can before it snags. Another way is to get right in line with the gate or lock in front of you and I mean right in line with the beginning of the gate and throw right to the edge of it and the same thing let it sink as much as you can and bring it in, now depending on water level there is a drop of there and let say the water is at 15-16 feet you will find it that is snag city but the fish like to hang there also. If you have bright blue bird skies get out like you are going to cast a surf rod in the gates and throw a 3/8 to a 1/2 oz jig right at the edge of the greaseline and do the same thing let it drop as much as possible and hit the ledge. If you ever fish out of a boat down there Bassky would be the guy to ask about out in the water in your boat. Hope you understand what I am trying to wright along with my punctuation I am by far no english major. Hope this helps alittle dont give up they are around.
