Get a bright colored yak and a ATV flag
Saving up for a pedal drive fishing kayak that I will use mainly on Lake Jordan Alabama. I am concerned for my safety as bass boats are constantly zipping around the lake but I still want to fish. My question is .....how can I standout to other boaters on the lake so I don't get ran over?
Yep ATV flag with a D cell powered led strobe that could be turned on when you hear boats nearby be pretty good also.

All the above and bright blades on paddles. Flare gun if they continue on course.

Flag on a long flexible fiberglass rod, this allows the rocking of the yak as you paddle to sway the flag making it more visible, plus even a light breeze will sway the flag.I also use lime green sections of pool noodles on my paddles, they show up like a beacon. When I'm not using my paddles,I seperate the paddle, and place each piece in the rod holders behind my seat, they are very noticeable.

I still like a good baitcaster with 200 lb Power Pro and an 8 oz sinker for those that get to close. Be ready for a ride if you don't hit the driver.
Your safety depends on your actions on large lake and any waters you fish. A flag is a must but you can not be putting yourself in main traveling paths like out in the big open waters. Cutting across a lake is the most dangerous action you will do in a kayak on these lakes. Most people are not looking where they are going but they are looking in direction of travel or all over the place. On big lakes I stay closer to the shore and when fishing river runs off the main bodies of the lake I watch and listen for boats coming wide open. I can get out of the way in enough time once I hear a boat at top speed coming. I like to longline these river runs and at times I will be in some deeper water than closer to the shore and it's not 'right' that I have to watch everyone but it is a ''must''! Like all have stated bright colors helps and waving the paddle if needed helps to.
You will love the drive unit kayak and I hope you will post and share about your trips on this forum.
