Default Fishing Early, Sunday Morning (08/06)

Open invite to Kayaks, canoes and such.
I'm heading over to Pyramid State Recreation Area, just South of Pinckneyville, IL to fish Sunday Morning. My plan is to be sitting at gate / Park Head Quarters Office about 6:00 a.m. for a few minutes.

If no one shows there, I'll be heading over to Lake #6 (Bufflehead Lake). Smaller lake but gets little traffic. (took a look at it last weekend on a Drive-by bases, scouting a bit. Plan to be give it a try, at least until 10:30 a.m. (Late comers are still welcome to catch up there and then we may jump to another lake, depending on catch rates! If I move, I'll try to put a note on the small sign by the lake to say were to!

(Park Entry is off Pyatt Rd. Bufflehead is West of Park Entrance, turning right off Pyatt Rd onto Panda Bear Rd, then should be second left into the drive. Sigh is there! Its located about half way up the length of Super Lake, if you're looking at the map!)

Water in these lakes can run deep, lately with 5-7 feet dept visibility. Met up with a guy last week with Dept Finder who noted Crappie were hanging at 20-25 feet, over 50 feet on the lake he was on. (he only caught 3 in a few hours on that lake!).

Looking at the weather forecast, Sunday, cloudy all morning with a rather high chance of showers through the day, but temps in the mid-to upper 70's.... Sounds good to me! Still worth my 90 minute drive!

Worse case, we hold up in a pavilion and swap fish stories! If fishing works out and rain holds off I might be around the area most the day.

    Catch You There!

Thank you, DSJ.... who knows.... may get down that way, one of these days!
How Late are the lakes opening and suitable for sit-on-top kayaking later this fall, down your way?
You could start planning early for the "Great American Chickamauga Lake Yak-Attack and Fall Round-Up"! There are some nice smaller bay areas around the Harrison Bay State Park. Check out the Group Cabin Camp (Harrison Bay State Park — Tennessee State Parks) Go three to a cabin, bunks.... Easy bed space for a few dollars, first 70 who sign up!

Sounds like a great place for a free for all. LOL... Post it... They will come!

Raining now.... expecting showers Sunday but the weather is tracking to the south of the area to be fished. Crossing fingers and packing to go!

Weather tracked more north.... It's really looking like a wash. Will try again soon.

I wouldn't have been able to make it for this trip - but sounds like it got rained out anyway. I'm only about 80 miles north of Pickneyville, so if you plan another trip, post it up and I'll try to make it down for that and maybe bring a buddy along.

I've fished Pyramid a couple of times, it's a neat park - but so many lakes to try - and so little time.
