    Default Wednesday

If I can finish the daily chores earlier enough I might hit either Pomona or Melvern Wednesday afternoon with the canoe... paddle power. I haven't fished these lakes enough this year to feel particularly compelled toward one or the other.

Any pointers on a good cove or creek for bare-bone canoe fishing this time of year?

State park cove at Pomona has all depths so you should be able to find something there...Or the boat ramp on the south side of the lake near the damn...Go out and fish the point and back in if there if you are able

At Melvern going to the Marina Cove has fish in there...All depths are available again and you should be able to get some fish..

I am headed out to La Cygne. My dad is up so we are targeting green carp to start the day, but hope to get him attached to a 10' rod by the end of the day

I know this is a little late for you. Doug and I fished Melvern today from 7:30am till 5:00pm and caught 51 total with 19 legals. I was the good guide for Doug today where I caught the little ones and kept them away from his hooks. Doug had a 14 incher the largest for the day and 11 of the legals caught.

We sure need some lessons from the Vetch and the duckman where they get out for just a few hours and catch good number where as Doug and I have to spend all day out there to even approach their numbers.

We spent the first three hours in the Arrow Rock cove catching fish 15 feet deep in 15 to 24 ft of water. Think we had 28 of our total fish caught by 10 am when we left the cove. We went up the lake by the road and found the water more murky and didn't mark many fish at all and didn't catch any.

We went back down to the dam and did catch a few at 21 to 24 ft north of the marina entrance. Tried the face of the dam with nothing.

Finished the day up in a cove fishing 15 ft down in 15 to 24 ft of water catching fish pretty much when we were marking them on the graph. The water temp was 51 degrees when we quit.

My trusty old Garmin hand held 76S was not trusty today where it wasn't acquiring satellites and was locked up showing us fishing in the Gulf of Mexico south of Pensacola Florida pretty much all day though it was telling the correct time of day. About 4pm today it finally unlocked and finally figured things out and put us on Melvern Lake.

Sounds like a good day! I would take 19 legals.

I ended up hitting Dragoon, it was great fun but I didn't catch a single crappy. Did manage to land several white and large mouth bass, and one carp. By the time I found active fish it was approximately 45 minutes until sundown and I was out far enough that it would have taken about 45 minutes of paddling at a comfortably slow pace to reach port with a few minutes of light remaining to hoist the aluminum canoe atop the car. Rather than seeking comfort, I fished for about 25 minutes with a steady bite, cursing myself the whole time with one eye fixed on an increasingly red sun.... then paddled like mad, making port just after sundown with two nice sized whites.... two...

I did take a picture of the carp and a couple shots of vultures that roosted in trees above where I was fishing -- their presence was perceived as a sign that it was time to put on the life vest. If the photos are presentable they will be uploaded tomorrow.

So, should my next expenditure be for sonar equipment or a trolling motor? OH OH, or a time machine? OH OH OH or lots of beer?

Chad, Chat, LBM, thanks for the advice.

Squirrel, I guess you are probably right about holding off on acquiring a time machine.... but it would be nice if spring-like weather would actually arrive and stick around.

It was fairly clear actually... maybe about a foot of visibility at the surface, I could see fish swimming beneath the surface around logs and floating debris.

What kind of visibility can be expected there when the water is at its clearest?
