Hi guys I just joined today , I'm a twenty year old college student and play football for a small school in wichita called Friends University. Not my first choice of schools but my father is the coach so i thought i owed it to him to play under him. Anyways I've been pretty spoiled my whole life because my father has been lifelong friends with some people down around Winfield KS who own a private 80 acre lake with the average bass being around 2-4 lbs. with a couple fish bigger than the current state records and crappie about 12 to 14 inches . So my question to all you defined gentlemen is this . I have a 16 ft. 2 man bass boat we never put it out on lakes because we always fish the private lake . This year i decided that i wanted to try some lakes otu and go out a couple times a week so i brought the boat out to my fiances parents house where my father-in-law to be got everything fixed from all the mice damage and got the 40 horse engine running again. I'm needin to know some lakes around the wichita area I'm not against driving an hour or two for some good fishing so im open to just about anything within a hundred miles or so of Wichita . We recently went out to Harvey county East lake with no avail but are going to try again because the weather kinda tricked us Saturday . Can any of you help me with some good bass and crappie lakes I'm really not that needy of a Catfish place .
Thanks.

Welcome to KS! I'm sure there are others in the Wichita area that could be more helpful on other lakes...
I've fished HC East lake a few times, and you should definitely give it another shot. The crappie and walleye fishing is pretty good. The lake is pretty shallow once you go upstream from the bridge, and there is a lot of good crappie cover up there. Guys should be pounding them up there pretty soon. We have also drifted jigs in there and caught some nice saugeye.
You will have to be patient in figuring it out, cause it probably won't hold a candle to your private lake even on a good day. Still, I think it's a pretty good little lake.
I am just pullin' your leg.:D
Welcome to the board from VA!

I went to High School in Winfield, Grad. in 77, now I live in Wichita and I have not had all that many chances to fish much around here but Eldorado Lake on the North East end there are some good spots with lots of cover for Crappie.
If you find a few good spots please keep me in mind.
Have a good day!!
