Hillsdale or Clinton lake better for bank fishing for crappie with my kids? I live In Olathe so either lake Is close for me. I've never fished a lake before In Kansas
depends on the day. I like Hillsdale better, but Clinton doesn't have as many lake lice and such.
Here is where a lot of shore fishers work during the spawn on Hillsdale

hope the crosshairs comes up on the cove just south of where the bridge crosses the Little Bull. There is a small parking lot on the west side of the road just before you cross the bridge. Then just follow the paths through the trees to that cove.
At Clinton I've seen a lot of fishers here

There are many other good spots on both lakes these are just some spots I've fished from a boat and have seen a lot of shore fishermen.
From those maps just switch over to satellite view and zoom in and out and pan around

Before I had my boat I would hit the banks at both places quite often....Hillsdale offers more accessible areas I think for taking the kids. The little bull bridge area that LBM mentions is a great location...The coves near there, the rip rap and the shore on the Northwest side all produces some fish. I have done well at Clinton also up in the State park at the Marina cove....
You might consider hitting up some of the smaller community lakes like Lake Olathe or Lonestar which has great places to bank fish for shallow crappie...
Good Luck!
Gardner Lake also has brushpiles accessible from the bank...Look for the fish feeder near the boatramp. Many crappie caught from shore there.

Thanks Guys. Anyone know about that lake out on 56 hwy In Overbrooke. On the south side of the road
Melvern.....there is a fishing dock....not sure about bank fishing...excellent crappie lake

Don't overlook the small community lakes in your area. They will warm up faster (AKA crappie on the banks sooner), you don't have to worry about the corps raising and dropping the water levels, and it should be easir to find the fish since there is less bank to walk.
Just my 2 cents.
I am just pullin' your leg.:D
olathe lake is good durning the week it gets hit hard on the week ends there are to brush piles in the cove across the lake from the boat ramp that can be fish from the bank
I have never fished the lake in overbrook....drive by it all the time and looks like it could be good, but I am not sure....I have caught some decent crappie out of the small lake in Edgerton as well near the tracks.
