    Default Fish Finders

I am looking to update the fish finders on my Ranger 381 VS. I have older Lowrance's on there now. I am looking at either a Lowrance 520 or a Humingbird 787 what would you recommend or use?

I have a Lowrance 522C that I bought about a year ago. I like it a lot. I have heard that Lowrance has the best products and best customer service compared to the other brands, which is why I bought it. I can't confirm that because I've also owned a humminbird and garmin before and never had any trouble with any of them.

The 522c is pretty user-friendly and shows good detail. It's the best unit I've owned. I have never used the humminbird. The Lowrance is a good product in my opinion.

I have 2 520s and love them however I might be willing to part with one in the near future. They are less then a year old. I also 2 Navionics hotmaps chips. I am investigating purchasing a Humminbird 797 SI. Small screen but I think I could get used to it for the SI

I don't have either one, but in my opinion (lots of technical experience with electronics) from what I've seen, the Humminbird Side Imaging is truly an advance forward in technology. Of course, because it's unique to HB it's still priced pretty high, and I think you do have to be a little bit tech-savvy or at least a patient learner to get the best benefits. I'm saving my $$ (Cabela's points, etc.) for a side-imaging unit, but don't know how long it will take, maybe another year or so.

I've done considerable internet research and the side imaging is highly recommended by those who've bought them. There are several websites with pictures from actual users, etc. From what I've read you do need to be very careful with transducer installation (location, etc.).

Anyway, just chiming in trying to be helpful.

What I have is the LMS-520c with external antena, Navionics hotspot North and South maps. This unit is in perfect condition and has been kept in doors. I have the box and receipt. I am only selling it because I want the Humminbird 797 with SI. Unit new brand new ~ $600 + $100 for hotspot south map and I cannot remeber which map north map I have but it was most likely $100. I am asking $500. Send me a PM if you would like to come see it.

I can testify that his LMS has 40 to 50 brush piles and "spots" marked on it. That is worth it's wait in gold.
It's not duck season so I have to do something... :D
