There is also a heated lake between Ft Scott and KC that is a very good lake. East of FT Scott a ways in Missouri is Stockton lake that is a good fishing lake. My mom owns a house in Ft Scott and she would love to sell it. . The Wichita area is about half way in between KC and Tulsa and has several good lakes with Walleye, Crappie, Blue cat, Small mouth and Large mouth bass also. There are several very good lakes that you drive by going either way out of Wichita. hope you are successful in your search and let us know when you are up this way and maybe we can get together and show you around and do a fishing trip locally. Good Luck
Fort Scott is about 1/3rd of the way from KC to Tulsa. Wichita is way out of the way...I believe you were thinking of Oklahoma City.

Right now we're looking at places on Zillow till it warms up there. I think tomorrow it's going to be about 80 here...several of us are headed to Mexico to drink beer and margaritas!

I would look at Clinton Missouri. My wife worked at the hospital there and gives it good marks. Taxes are typically lower in Missouri. Housing is reasonably priced. Truman Lake has aged but is still a great fishing spot. Some of the Kansas lakes mentioned are not far away and Stockton and Pomdeterre are just to the South. Bennett springs trout park is an easy drive. There is a four lane highway to Kansas City and Springfield is about as easy to get to. You can jump over to I-49 just to the West to get to Tulsa.

The people are Ozarky but friendly and not living in another century. If I was younger I would probably go for the real Ozarks South of the lake but I have made too many trips to the emergency room in the last few years to find the isolated life appealing.

Might I suggest Lamar, MO, about 2'15" to either Tulsa or KC. They have Lamar City Lake which fishes well, 45 min to Stockton,1'15" to Truman, 1'15" to Grand Lake, 1'40" to Table Rock, Just to name a few. Only 40 minutes to Joplin MO which has most any restaurant or shopping desired. A bonus is Lamar's largest employer (O'Sullivan) closed a few years ago so there should be ample housing at affordable prices. It is a rural community, they have a super Walmart, a strong football program and lots of good people. Just a suggestion.
