    Default question on crappie nibbles

Once a jar of crappie nibbles is opened, what is its useful life? Do they go bad (i.e. lose their scent/flavor)?

I have a jar that I opened, either last year or the year before, and I was wondering whether it will still be effective. I will buy a new jar anyhow, just to be on the safe side.

I have used jars that have been open for 2+ years and they still work for me. I think the scent actually gets stronger.

    Chad,

I kind of lost my taste for crappie nibbles after I started eating the Gulp minnows. They are not bad raw, but they are great when sauteed in the packing liquid.

    Jawzenator,

I have a confession - I am FAR from an expert on crappie fishing. However, they do seem to help a good deal.

They can really make a difference at times, especially when the bite is tough

I found -- if you leave the jar open...Let them dry out..They stay on the hook better,,
And the wife will ask you "what is thet Smell" in the basement.

"nothing like the smell of nibblets in the morning".

    And yes..sometimes --- If you don't have them on you won't get a bite>

when I buy a new jar I bump it out on a cookie sheet and spread them out then put them in the sun for 30 min or so . makes it easier to get one out and I think they stay on the hook longer . don't fish with out them

They really help at times when the bite is tough or slow. Of course when the specks are really chewing just put the jig in the water wait for the bump and set the hook. Nothing better.

I never leave home without them, I specialty like them when vertical jigging a brushpile. My opinion is the crappie will hold onto a jig longer if a nibble is attached, and I need all the help I can get. I also dry out the nibbles, they are to soft directly out of the bottle.
