I do not have any opinions on stick steer boats, but not sure I would ever buy one. Not sure why, but just wouldn't. But there are tons of good buys out there in that range. Go to craigslist.com and search the KC area etc and you will get just what you want. There are some really nice older fiberglass boats even that you could choose from. I have seen one on there from up at Smithville for just over $3200 that you can tell has been taken very good care of...its just 15-20 yrs old. If you want aluminum which may be a good idea since you fish HD alot with the trees there are many options. I would just recommend remembering all the other costs involved if you do not already have a boat. Life jackets, anchors, rod holders, etc etc etc. You will also end up buying more tackle than you think. Make sure it has working electronics and a good trolling motor or you could end up having costs right away there. Do not skimp on the trolling motor as you use it more than anything. Check the trailer tires and ask them about mainteance they have done etc etc.

i have had my first stick steer about 4 months now and can give you some of the pros and cons as i see them. if you don't like to move around in the boat the stick steer allows you to operate everything from up front:steer the boat.trolling motor, pumps, lights, etc. you can run in shallower water because of the up front weight. you can see stumps and rocks better. most stick steers have only two seats and a padded live well so everyone rides where they fish. my regular partner has ms so once he sits down he doesn't have to move to ride safe under power. if you want to move to a spot thats just a ways up the lake without using trolling motor...well you get the idea.
the stick steer in some states have a horse power limit. 40hp i think. no wind shield makes for a cold ride at times. making slow tight turns at the boat ramp requires some time to adjust as does loading boat on trailer.
i have been happy so far with the concept. we spider rig a lot and i don't have to move all day.

Had a stick steer back in the 70's and did not like it. You don't have anything to hold on to. The stick moves foward or back and doesn't give any support. If you are under way and hit a stump it will slam the stick put of your hand. jmo, but I don't think they are safe. I really like to have something solid to hang on to while under way.

boat
Thanks for the replies I do want an aluminum boat because I would just scratch up a fiberglass boat I want something around 15 or 16'. I have been looking at craigslist a lot. I do want something that already has most electronics on it. I have an old 70's fiberglass boat right now but it has a cheap depth finder and hand controlled trolly. I think I might start looking at bass trackers.
