If you had the opportunity to fish a 2-3 day tournament that had a first place payout of $5000 and a $1000 going to big fish would you pay $300 a boat to enter it? If not what would the most you pay for a tournament be?
Seems pretty steep to me for a one off tourney to win $5000. I do not think I would pay more than $200 right now for any tourney with my limited fish catching skills. Too much money to throw away.
Not sure where your headed labs but I would need a little more info.
1. single or buddy
2. ks. lake or outa state
3. single pole or what ever state regs. are
4. how many boats to guarantee $5000
5. payback schedule
fear me ye that dwell beneath the waves
0...it's just not my cup of tea
Remember "I" before "E," except in Budweiser
sounds a little steep if you have to rent a motel,
at least 3 days to prefish.
3 days fishing.
then if you have to buy the hot bait or lures.
Fuel cost are on the rise again.
On average the PWT states it will cost an average of 1,000 to 1500 to fish a three day event.
You also have to eat,
all is out the window if you encounter boat or equ.problems.
Pete Harsh states he wont fish unless the payout is 10,000 dollars .He makes his living fishing.
How many places do they pay out so you have a chance to recoop some of your cost if your on the right bite.
It is a very tough life unless you have very deep pockets.
Kinda sounds like a NWT tourney?
HuskerLand is the name, custom jigs are the game!

Well the details are in the works I was just trying to get a feel for how everyone felt. It is not going to be like any crappie tourny out there. It is going to be quite different and I promise it will be fun we are going to limit it to the first 32 boats. It will be a buddy tournament on a local lake. We are still talking about either making it a one pole artificial or regular regulations. As far as payout details we are leaning towards four to five places. Ole pete is gonna have to take a vacation for this tourny. I will have full details soon.
One last question, if you only had to beat five teams to win that $5000 would it be more inviting?
In my opinion, I think you're on the right track in the sense that there is a real want for a crappie series in this area. Although it would be nice to see those kind of payouts, in reality they are probably a little steep for the pool of anglers you have to draw on. Now on the other hand, if you're looking at a one time tournament or an annual type of tournament with those kinds of payouts then you would probably have to look at having those payouts guaranteed. You would probably have to have your payout schedule paying at least you're money back plus a little for other expenses by finishing in the top ten to garner any type of huge support. The amount of advertising and selling of the idea would be no small task to reach the number of anglers needed. The next monumental task would be picking the lake to appease all the anglers. In the group of anglers you're questioning here, you would be hard pressed to nail down a lake that most could agree on as being nuetral. It's kind of like being to big for a club type tourny but being too small for a professional like tourny. It appears the most important factor would be the cost vs. the gain or ROI if you will. If you can get that part down, then you would maybe see some success. For me personally the ROI is fairly good with the starting points you have laid out. I wouldn't have a problem fishing something like this as a team format or even an individual type event if as I said before, I could recoup at the break even point by finishing top ten. You should be commended for thinking outside the box in promoting the competitive spirit of local fishing tournaments. If the ideas are never presented and the feedback never given Then no one would ever know if it was feasable. Keep up the good work and it just might happen.
Am I starting to get a picture here that your possibly leaning towards a tourny where you pick the five teams or draw the five teams that you're fishing against, and the team that wins would be the one that beats the most teams of their five picks by the largest weight?? :D Or is that way too far out of the box??? Some type of Calcutta??
