Since i couldnt make it to toronto to try the tic tic tug i went up to bone creek to give it a try. I did end up catchiing five of the biggest crappies i have caught at bone creek. 12 to 14in which is some big crappiefor that lake. Had no luck on minners so switched to black and chat slab slayers. I would lower it slowly dow the tree and get the tic tic but never got the tug. I tried setting the hook on the tic tic and would come up with nothing. I would let them tic tic tic it and wait for the tug or the line to move and it would never come.I had a ton of bites and it was like they was just hitiing the tails. I have never had so many tails eaten of my jigs before. I was just wondering if this is how it goes some times or was i doing something wrong. Anways had a great day on the lake and im hooked on learnig this method.
You are on it but,,,,you gave-up on the minners WAY too fast. Spend a lot of time keeping the 'ticker' ticking. "This is not a feeding fish". In fact you prolly will never feel the crappie take it. It will just get heavy, light, or move off to the side. Sometimes I have set the hook on some monsters that might of been thought of just laying on a limb. Another tactic that I use is to replace the 'ticked-out' minner with a fresh lively one. Another trick is to put a bobber-stop on your line the depths of the ticks so you can put it back exactly the same depth or just a little above it. Good luck my friend!!! <*)}}}><
You'll see the difference,,,on the end of your line!
Thanks for the advice chatt hopefully i will be off work tomorrow to give it another try.
sometimes you have to wait after that tic tic for what sometimes seems like eternity b4 you get the tug, slack or line starting to move. I think the bobber stop is very important in keeping your bait in the same depth while they are giving you the tic tic.
I fished BC a couple of weeks ago. We caught 15 in four hours on jigs and Nibbles. The biggest was 11". Most were around 9.5". That little tic tic is blue gil or red ear. They will destroy a jig body. We caught a couple of them. You might as well move on to another spot. We caught most of ours in 20' around big trees.
I have not fished for summer crappie but could not resist with the weather this past weekend. Took three dozen minnows to Perry and learned the tic tic tug. By the time I learned it all the big boats and waves came. Caught about 20 shorts and 3 hogs. I used a 1/4 oz egg sinker and small hook 15 inchs below. Also, used slip bobber to fish the second pole. Crappie holding tight to brush in 8-12 ft.
White bass galore under rock creek bridge right on cement piers 6-8 ft deep. You never know if the tic tic is a dink or not. I am thinking most were dinks.
