Thread: Hillsdale Saturday

Well I am not sure how everyone else did this weekend but it was pretty tough for me on HD after the first couple of hours. Got there right at 6 and loaded out of the Antioch ramp to try and stay away from the main lake. Had not been up there since last fall, so I was not sure what to expect or where the fish to be.

I pulled up to the first 2 stumps in 10 FOW and first drop bam. Classic 9 1/2 inch HD fish....Then got a keeper on same stumps followed by 3 others short fish and thought man 5 fish in less than 10 minutes...This is gonna be a great day. I fished a few trees out deeper without any bites so I headed over to a row of trees in shallow water that produced last year...And it was pretty good....Had 7 keepers by the time I went through those trees...4 FOW , By 8:30 I had 8 keepers and about 25 fish total, but then it just shut down. I caught another 8 total fish the rest of the day until about 1:30 with no more keeprers. Caught all keepers on minners...some shorts on 2" beavertails and wasshoppah's. 8 keepers out of 33 fish all in 4-10' of water with a majority of them in 4-5 fow.

I guess I should have went to Pomona again, but it was good to have a change of scenery.

Anyone else get out and have any luck?

I decorated the brushpiles over at Wabaunsee. The bite was pretty close to the bottom in 12'. I found some very nice schools of fish, but also managed to lose more than a few jigs. I/we managed to catch a lot of crappies this weekend, but I did not catch the elusive 14" + fish I was hoping for. Still, the bite was good when everything worked out. 2 more lil' munchkins, 4 and 6 years old, caught their first ever fish.:D:D:D Lots of whooping-it-up, and photos by the parents. I was glad to host the fun!

Next weekend, hope to make another trip down to SE Kansas and attempt to catch one of those big ol' SE KS slabs... I am daring to dream. 15".... 16":D... 17"???:D:D:D

BTW, nice job Chad, even if it was a little slow.

Speaking of "change of scenery", did you notice that Charlie365's website had a contour map for CG City lake???:D I'm thinking somebody should check the accuracy of that map. Just a thought...

I also fished the Antioch area Saturday.....was not pulling nearly the amount of fish the Chad managed.....kept 3 but one was a 14 incher....Wind was a real bear in the afternoon...

BA, If I would have gotten there about the time you did I would have done worse...Heck after I saw you it was terrible.
