    Default Pomona

After about 10 months...finally got back to Pomona. Chatt had me fired up to catch some slabs. My son and I decided to stay at Lamont Hills so we would be right at the lake. He killed his limit of bugs with his shoe as he watched them creep across the floor in the glow of the tv. Then we woke up to a helluva t-storm. Breakfast with Chatt and his client was good but when Chatt paid the tab...I knew it could be a tough day. (Last time he did that several years ago...we only caught 2 fish in the Cabelas tourney at Milford....but it turned out ok since they were worth 150 bucks apiece). Chatt hit the deeper stuff and we hit the trees in 110 mile. 3 hours and just 3 keepers later after dipping every tree we could fish with both minners and jigs, we finally joined Chatt and hit the deeper brush on the breaks. In the afternoon my son fished with Chatt and learned the fine art of fishing the Kentucky rig. They did the minner thing and I did the jig thing. Both worked. Lots of sizes from aquariums to slabs. We didn't keep but a couple fish in the afternoon. Thunderstorm probably shut down the shallow tree bite but the deeper bite was decent. Dave at Chapman Creek told me that his black and green glow tube was deadly on Pomona...and it worked well. At least those tubes don't scream "not me...please not me" when you put them on a jig head like the minners. :D

Sounds like it ended up being ok....I think that rain must have shut them off in the trees...It was good the day before. I did not try any deeper water.

Hef and I were gonna meet you all over there as well, but with the rain we decided to not take the chance of waiting forever and that wind blowing right into the 110 arm I am sure made it tough.

We had a few sprinkles after we put on about 7 30. Wind was blowing straight up 110 but we had places that were fishable. We did catch quite a few fish deeper...always good to see 3 to 4 sizes in a lake. Trees might have been good in the afternoon. Having weather with radar on cell phone paid off.
