My dad and I will be joining Chatt for a session at Toronto Thursday. I can't wait...Hopefully it won't be to jacked up from the rain over the weekend...

just got back from there, you gentlemen should do alright!think someone is planning on being there from the missouri side, but if i know him he will be in walnut creek.
why do today what you can put off til tomorrow, go fishing instead!!!
weather forecast is not looking good.![]()
In response to the paycuts that were announced at work on Mon, I said the heck with it and took the day off today to enjoy the weather (proof that paycuts do not motivate me to work harder
) and made a solo trip back to the legendary Toronto. I sure hope you all do better tomorrow than I did today... Be sure and let me know what the trick was, albeit after the fact. The weather was fantastic though!!
Water temps in Mann's cove were in the upper 80's; less than a foot of clarity - pretty good conditions for the summer tree dippin pattern, i thought. They just weren't hittin' or were hard to find. I managed to get 10 total, most were 10-12", one 13.5". But it was a lot of work for those 10. The pattern, if any, seemed to be 5-6' down on trees in 5-10 fow. Half came on minnows, half on a black/chart jig. A couple did the tic-tic-tug, the rest were just the conventional thump. The thump however was not consistent, some would hit it immediately, sometimes it took almost a minute of holding it dead still before the thump.?
Maybe it was the NW wind; or maybe it was the noticeable absence of shad. For some reason, mann's cove seemed void of shad today. no schools, no flipping, no clouds showing up on the sonar. Don't know where they went... Let me know if you all see the same thing Thursday.
First things first:
Dad and I fished Hillsdale on 7/1. Caught 38 total with 3 keepers. Best results were in 20fow about 12' down on minners.
Now for 7/2....on Toronto with the Chatt Meister. Only managed 8 keepers but OMG they were friggn' huge! all but one were 13" or better with the largest over 15. I missed a legit 3 pounder according to Chatt. It spit the jig when it saw the boat and I did my usual swahali outburst.
My dad is pushing 66, has a bad back and new knee. I kept him up front with Chatt all day and they were thick as thieves. It was a wonderful day. There were thunderstorms in the area but no lightening. It rained on us a bit but we did not have to leave the water. It was his first guided fishing trip.
All fish were caught on 32nd oz jigs with minners. 12-14 fow 4-5' down. It was also a great multi-species day as we hooked into black bass, white bass, a flat head catfish, and a couple gar. Crappie had a tendency to be in with the gar...I stand corrected.
I have one pic on my phone that i will add soon
Chatt, thanks a million.

Sounds like a great day. I sure hope your father hasn't been forever ruined from setting beside the ol Chatt Meister all day.:D![]()
By the way AntiochBA I detected a tone in your words "My dad is pushing 66" that I and probably others just might take some offense at. Sixty six ain't the end of time there you youngster.:D:D
Glad you all had a good time with Chatt and I'm told it could have been better iffen you all had seen Chatt fall in the water as he seems to do on occasions.:D![]()

I am hoping to hear some good reports from Toronto, thinking of going there this coming week. Might stay overnight and fish other lake also.
Lee, No offense intended...just trying to say that even if he could swim, I don't think he was gonna be mobile enough to fish from the back. Plus, he wasn't used to handling the longer jiggin poles....With my father "pushing 66" I am no longer a spring chicken and certainly do not think you old farts that are pushing 66 as old :D
Not sure if ruined is the right way to describe his day in the front of the boat...but certainly "enlightened"

Just got back from toronto, fished from 7:15 to 4:00. Two of us managed 7 keepers and two white bass, nothing was close to braggin size. It was a very tough bite to come by, we did our best in 5-8 fow from top to bottom. The best color was black and chartreuse beavertails and yum curly tails. We tried the minner thing and did not catch a fish on them. Water temp was 80 when we put in and got up to about 85, I think the storm that rolled throught there this morning might have screwed them up a bit. We talked to a couple guys first thing in the morning and they hadn't caught a thing. It surely should get better.
