    Default Pomona Wipers

Has anyone else noticed a big difference in the number and size of wipers at Pomona this year. In past years I could usually catch my 2 and they would be up to 24 inches. Biggest this year was 21 inches and did not catch many keepers. Caught lots of white bass. Wondering if dumping water from the 2 spring floods has anything to do with it.

I agree. Fished it 3 times this spring and didn’t break 21”. Fished it pretty hard last 10 years or so. Didn’t spend much time there this year. Way better fish to the north of there this year and last. IMO.

The same is going on right now at Clinton but with a few larger fish mixed in. The thing I have noticed is the pressure for wipers has really increased over the past 3 years. Plus I see a lot of people do not try to revive the wipers they catch and kill way too many. One day I was fishing in the spring and a guide with clients was catching them in 35 ft of water and then after taking pictures about 10-15 really nice ones were floating on the surface dead. I have seen this too many times this year and this will negatively affect the population. You do not see the large schools out at Clinton like you did 3 years ago.

I have had some bad experiences with guides. Some think they own the lake! I would personally like to see a severe crackdown on them. That is going to get some rude comments! I now have the phone number for game thief on my phone and will not hesitate to use it. Need to start taking pictures, videos and calling the wardens. We have too few game wardens to monitor everything. Bet this is going to fire a few guides up!
